Root Cannot Download Mms From Any Messaging App. Download Unsuccessful Instantly And Everytime Without Fa

I have used the stock app and handcent and no luck. it just instantly fails the same second i try to download it. i'm getting drivin insane trying to figure this out. i've already wipe all the data and put a fresh cyanogenmod 7.2 on it

so yes it has been rooted

i've fixed the permissions and clean installed cm7.2 so many times, i've lost count

i've even tried other mods and the same thing happens

i would try on cyanogenmod's forums but they're forums don't have much activity.

someone PLEASE HELP! i've been screwing with this for 5 hours and i'm at my wits end here with it.

moved you to the rooting section

have you tried a different messaging app: i use go sms. what exactly is the error? do you have room on your card? is it partitioned?

I would nandroid and then flash a sprint sense rom and update your prl and profile update. What build of 7.2 are you on, maybe try the latest nightly

I have tried other cm mods but the result was all the same. Even on the cm9 mod. I suppose I'll find a mod that allows me to update the prl ...

The error in the stock app is Download of message ... was unsuccessful. Usually tries for a couple seconds, then instantly fails.

No I only used handcent to try another app. I want to stick with the stock because its nice and light.

The SD card is not partitioned and it isn't even half full yet.
 
Well here's what I did...

I flashed it to a MikG 3.11 rom I used to use that was Sense-based.
Updated the PRL and tested a MMS on that rom. Works fine.
Then I flashed the CM7 rom on it. Tested MMS. Works fine again.
So I then reflashed CM7 and then installed the Google Apps rom and started it up. Now the same exact problem is back with receiving MMS.

So now I'm back on the MikG rom, just because it works. I have no idea what the problem is with the gapps rom but it seems to be related to that pack. I can't do without it since I really need/like Google Play for apps.

I'm probably just going to use this other rom until I upgrade my phone. Unless somebody knows what could've caused the problem.

When you say "Google apps ROM" do you mean the GApps zip file? Also, you have to flash that zip file through recovery. Not sure why you flashed CM7 again when all you needed to do was flash the GApps zip file after the original flashing of the CM 7 ROM

Yes, I do mean that. Sorry for not being specific. I use and only used ClockworkMod 5.0.2.2 for recovery and I booted into it for each installation. I tried installing it about 3 different ways and it didn't make a difference. Once I installed the GApps Pack, MMS would fail on download.
 
couple questions:
which gapps file did you flash? do you have a link?

do you planning on flashing other roms? if so then i would suggest that you ditch CWM it sucks at wiping. amon ra 2.3 is a much better recovery. if you need help switching let us know. we will need to know what your hboot and radio are and if you are locked or unlocked.

Probably not on this phone. I only have about 2 months left with it and MikG is good enough for me. I'll probably try that new recovery in a few days or so; although cwm has never given me a problem with anything. But I need a phone with working MMS for a while until I'm not so busy.

If I do end up trying again, I'll post a follow-up on whether or not it works.
 
I had this same problem, and I also couldn't delete any message threads that anyone had tried to send me an mms on. I cleared the history from my SD card, and then bam all worked well. I was using go SMS but no other app would work. And now any app I use works. Give that a shot.
 
Using Amon RA 2.3 recovery and put CM7.2 on and the Google apps pack. Tried receiving MMS before adding my Google account on start up. MMS received fine. Tried it after adding Google account. Back to the same exact problem. I don't know what it is but there seems to be something with the Google Account being added that's screwing something up.

That is where the Google Apps Pack is from. Downloading the one under CyanogenMod.

With this new info, any ideas?

The 7.2 is supposed to be a stable release, though. However, I'm going to try 7.1 in a couple days. I need a break from screwing with it all night.

Ugh.. sometimes I wish I never got into this modding.
 
ah yeah your right. forgive me it has been a while since i looked into cm7. i did not know cm7.2 went stable. lol

do you know what the nightlies are then? i assumed it was for cm7.2.
 
I've been having this same problem for about a week. Any resolution yet? Are you signed up for google voice? I wondered if that was somehow interfering, although I don't see how...
 
I was able to flash a sense rom and mms messages worked fine, so I wouldn't think it's a network issue. I updated profile and prl in the sense rom before flashing back to CM7.2, but still not working.
