Help cannot figure tone picker out

I installed tone picker but cannot figure out how to use it, i click on the app and has a few sliders but nothing i see to change to a custom mp3 tone for my text messages.

i do not think tone picker is supported for text message alerts for the incredible 2
 
ok i tried Handcent SMS and that seems to work sort of. my custom mp3 will start to play for the incoming text message but then gets over ridden by the dumb default one
 
ok got everything to work, but when a message come in and music playing it will not shut off when viewing message with handcent sms. i have to open the message up in the stock messaging to get it to stop.
 
I had this problem before as well. I found that going to menu/settings/sound/notification sound did not work.

What worked for me was going to the actual sms app and hitting menu/settings/notifications/notification sound worked for me.

I found this very odd as they should have correlated, but they did not. When I changed the notification sound in my general settings it did not change it in my sms settings. so try going to your sms app and changing the settings from there.

I just got this to work, if you want to use music or a downloaded .mp3 file a your text message notification you can create a new directory for them on your SD card using a file explorer. I used es to do this.
First create a folder called media then audio then notifications. Media/audio/notifications.
Then copy whatever file you want to use and put it in the directory under the last notifications path.
Then when you go to your notifications to change them the files will show up in the stock notification picker.

I Just played around with this some more, I found that you can also add the paths ringtones and alarms to the last notifications sub folder & copy or move whatever audio file you want into them & they will also show up in the corresponding stock notification picker for each.
Silly me, at first I was trying to move or copy mp3's and audio file into the root system folder. I know I don't have root access for that, so it kept failing.
So I just created the same path it had in the SD card that was in the system folder where all the default sounds are stored, media/audio/notifications ringtones alarms, and sure enough, it worked.
 
yeah i got all my 400 ringtones from my last phone to this one with ease the first day i had it by making a folder like you said. But the big issue i am having now is i cannot adjust the volume of the notification when a text message comes through. i cannot adjust it like the ringtone volume. :(

Do not ask me why i have so many ringtones LMAO. cuz i have no clue LOL. i deleted alot to LOL

I am sure that you have tried menu> settings> sound> volume (set the audio volume) that brings up all the sliders for increasing ringtone, media, and notification volume.
If you can't make it louder from there try getting volume control + by coffeebreak from market, that might help you with it.
