Help Cannot get ICS properly..

jboy1987

Newbie
I have installed several ICS leaked ROMs on my SGS2. In the last ones there has been a problem with the annoying Software update notification that wont go away because registering fails every time. I have now flashed the 'official' final release found at XDA ([ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares K/G/H/I/J/K1/2/5/KL1/2/3/LA2,4/LB2,LPE/Q Download - xda-developers) (XXLPQ MultiCSC). This problem persists, it is not possible to accept the terms of the software update agreement, and the notification is still there :(

So I tried to install a gingerbread rom (XWKI8) from the same thread so I could update to the newest firmware OTA instead. But after installing it keeps crashing during the setup wizard :p

Now it seems I cant go back to GB and I cant get ICS to work properly.. Can someone please give me a hint on this?

I removed the notification by going into Settings > Applications > Samsung Update and clicking disable
Thank you, the notification is gone now.

For a solution, see here:-

Download Google Play Store 3.4.7 APK

Hope it helps.

Why would installing google play help? This firmware version is already shipped with google play.

And anyway, this only offers a symptomatic relief. When a new version is out, how can I get it OTA and not via odin? I have tried to go back to gingerbread without any luck..

The only way Kies will work is if you're running the correct firmware for your deviceID e.g. stock XEU for unbranded UK handsets.

As for going back to stock 2.3.x from a leaked 4.0.x, you may need a full factory reset to zero-out incompatible system settings/data from the more recent OS version.

Thanks.

Indeed, when going back to android 2.3 from 4.0.3 i had to do a factory reset from the service menu (power up while holding volume UP and home button pressed). However, the update system found no available OTA updates afterward (I used the right ROM for my locale and I know it is available here).

So then I followed your other advice to install 4.0.3 but this time the correct locale... I initially used XEO (Poland) instead of NEE (Nordic). Now all is fine! Found the correct version over at sammobile.com.
