Root cannot load 'Unlock_code.bin'

cannot load 'Unlock_code.bin' is what seems to be happening when I try to root my evo 4g. is the solution the same as it is with the evo 3d??

what is happening? why can't you download it? is there no file attached? do you get a download error?

I apologize, let me try to explain. I go to the root for dummies(revised), the HTCdev method. I have the hboot 2.18 and it says locked at the top. 1st, i make sure to have all the files listed before you start the bootloader. theni went to the HTC website, did all the steps up to the email being sent. when i opened the email, the attachment was there to be downloaded. I right-clicked it to be saved in the Android folder. followed the next steps to go to the command prompt, and that's where it says "error: cannot load 'Unlock_code.bin'" (By the way, the download in the email was 1K)

ok and just to be sure you type this in the command window:
Code: 
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

correct?

if yes then try and re-download the file. could be a bad download.
 
I wish it was, but i even tried to use a diff email address. i done this at least 6 diff times. Could it be a program that i might need in order for a .bin file to work?

ok lets keep the conversation to this thread and not the dummies thread.

no you do not need to use a different program. make sure that the file is not extracted. leave it as it is. and are you sure you have the file in the correct folder?
 
Ok. yes i do. I creeated the Android file in the C drive. It has the adb file, fastboot file, and the adbwinapi file in it.
 
I'd like tho thank you all for your help in this matter, and quick responses. I'm going to try this method again to see what's gonna happen.

weird i use chrome and rooted my phone via HTCdev and never had any issues. glad it worked for you.

now go and get your flash :D

I want to do the flash a rom part, but these links didnt work:
1.first you need the vr superwipe (this is not a rom. this is a file that wipes your sytem partitions and also wipes all the temp files as well:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8709935/ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip. download it and put it on your card. (optional)*
2.download the rom (i recommend MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012]) of your choice and transfer it to your card.

My internet is sluggish so ocn may respond quicker than I but,
This is the way I do it.
Download the file to computer.
plug in phone and mount as disk drive. What you see that pops up on your computer is your sd card contents.
drag file into sd card...not in any folder, just on card.
unmount phone from computer.
Bam! its on your card.:D
