Root Can't Access recovery following an attempted unroot - Please Help!

All of those look good, so hopefully I won't run into any trouble. How come I'll have to root with unrevoked the second time around, is toast's method dated now or just much more tedious?

If you get a new phone, it will have:

1) The latest OTA (i.e. hboot 2.10)
2) Different partition setup

hboot 2.10 (and 2.02) *technically* cannot be downgraded. There is a way to do it, but it can only be done if you have an older phone that does have the newer partitions. A new phone would. In which case, unrevoked is the only method. There are other methods, but ultimately, they just flash unrevoked-forever to give you s-off.

If they fix your current phone, you can use something called universal autoroot to root via the eng bootloader. It's ultimately how toast's method got s-off before.

Pardon me for inquiring here; but the help for this person's issue just kind of ended. I have the same issue. I have rooted my EVO 4g using Revolutionary and then successfully unrooted and returned to stock and now am not able to go into the stock recovery (or any recovery for that matter)

I am just dangerous enought to brick a phone probably. I can read the instructions, but I'm really lost. I have rooted/unrooted without a hitch until- but I need to stay unrooted because Sprint gives me troubles in cities I roam in (and I travel about 1500 miles a week- so I had to stop at service centers in the last weeks).

My first question is-- does it even matter if I have a recovery or not?? If I need it- here's my specs if anyone can help:
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.16.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.0808

I used to be able to use a RUU file titled
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe

But when I use it now I get an error 140

Any help or direction appreciated. Thanks

when you unroot you get a stock recovery which since you have s-on you do not have access to. so you have one but it is stock. if you want a recovery then you need to re-root your phone and install a custom recovery.

Okay, so let's say I'm happy and never want to screw around with the phone again. Do I even need a recovery?

yes. recovery is important because that is where any troubleshooting will be done. also recovery is good to make a nandroid backup so that if something goes wrong, you can always restore back to your previous setup.

sorry but i just re-read your post. the ruu that you have is an older ruu and it does not match your hboot. so if you want to completely go back to the unrooted state here is the actual ruu you will need.
1.RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_2.15 .00.0808_NV_2.15_release_209995_signed. this one you can run on your computer

2.PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_ 2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_209995_signed. this one you run in hboot on your phone. just erase everything but the PC36IMG part in the name.

so i will leave that up to you.
