Root Can't access recovery menu!

flash is just a term that means to install the zip file in recovery. you do need to move the file to the sd card.

yes and no to the su steps.. yes if you plan on staying stock. and no if you plan on flashing a rom like mikg.

Sweet.
You took a noob with a broken phone to someone that just flashed his ROM with MikG.

What are some benefits of using this new ROM. Is it similar to when I jailbroke my iPod and was able to access better apps.

Can I now enable my WiFi Hotspot?

Thanks
Mike

no it is not like an iphony. you will have to and should pay for apps. these devs work hard to get us these awesome apps for our phones.

and as far as benefits. mikg is just a better rom. it is very fast and stable. it has sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 built in. and yes it does have sprint's hotspot hacked. but unfortunately we can't really discuss that here. there was a wireless tethering app that was blocked from the market by sprint as that is violating sprint's TOS. please read this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/480569-psa-about-tethering.html

I guess I should rephrase that.
Does rooting your Droid and running a custom ROM give you access to "better" apps that were not previously available. I definitely don't mind paying for apps that make my life easier.

Or does running a custom ROM only help with the stability of your phone (Speed, power consumption, etc...)

well now that you are rooted you will have access to root required apps like setcpu and titanium backup. both are great apps that non rooted phones can't use. both are on the market.

setcpu makes it so that you can scale your cpu with a custom kernel so that you can improve performance and battery life.

titaniums backup is cool because you can freeze and delete bloatware as well as make backups and restore your apps and its data. very essential if you flash a lot of roms like most of us flashaholics here:D

and yes custom roms will affect performance and stability of your phone. but it also allows you to change the phone's os to some degree. we now have ICS (icecream sandwhich) which is a new android os that our evo's will never get. they are still in alpha test phase so there is a lot of work to be done. we have sense 3.5 roms that were ported from verizon phones that are pretty cool as well. so there are many benefits from flashing custom roms. it will depend on what you are looking for in a rom as well.
