Help Can't add words to Google keyboard while typing on my galaxy s5

My Google keyboard doesn't seem to have an option to add words to the dictionary as i type. If i type a new word and backspace there is no option to add that word to the dictionary i even uninstalled it and reinstalled it and they didn't help. anyone knows what I'm missing
I'm using a galaxy s5 att

I use Swype keyboard and if you type a new word, it offers you a chance to save it

Hi,
This option is in google keyboard in settings.
Go to settings>language&input tap on.
Scroll down to personal dictionary.
Add words and save.

I know that swipe has that option to add words as you type them and so does Google.
While typing a new word there is an option to add it to the dictionary as you can see in the second half of the article (the screenshot showing how to add "lol" to dictionary)

The problem is that on my phone that option doesn't show up
Anyone know of a solution

Hi,
Go to settings >storage>cached data>clear cached data.
Settings>storage>apps>Google keyboard>force stop>clear cache>clear data>uninstall updates.
Open google play store menu my apps and games>update google keyboard.
Settings>account>google.
Select syncing.
Reboot /restart device.
