Cant connect my phone to audio call. Only media.

My phone is huawei nova 5t and bought a galaxy earbuds live. I connect media audio, but not phone audio. I go into settings, select phone audio, and it immediately disconnects the phone audio. I've disconnected the pairing, and re-paired it. What am I missing?

Try rebooting the Huawei phone?

FWIW I paired a Huawei Mate 10 with Samsung Galaxy Buds+(got free with a new Galaxy Note20 Ultra), and that seemed to work for both phone audio and media audio. Although it wasn't immediately obvious how to get the Galaxy Buds into pairing mode when they're not used with a Samsung Galaxy device. Have to put them in your ears, and then touch both buds simultaneously for about 5 seconds. Usually with these types of things, you just press and hold a button on the charging case. But the Galaxy Buds doesn't have a button on the charging case.

just curious. don't you still need samsung's app to help pair the buds? or is manually the only option?
