Cant do a nandroid backup on gingerbread 2.3.3 with Superoneclick or SRoot

Lurker
Hi there from a long term lurker first time poster

I've been a iphone user for years but after getting sick of having to jailbreak my phone to do what I like I took the plunge to android - only to find you have to root to do what you like here too :) anyway, now im here im going to give it a go and see if its worth it!

I used odin 1.85 to load an insecure kernal (GT-I9100_XWKF4_insecure) from xda and then used sroot to root my phone. installed rom manager to try and do a nandroid backup before messing anything up but everytime i try to boot into clockworkmod recovery it just goes into the standard android recovery with an 'E: failed to verify whole-file signature' error. searched around on the web to see what might be causing it but nothing seems to have worked.

I've since unrooted with sroot, and rerooted with superoneclick and then reinstalled rom manager but still get the same error. I'm not sure if ive missed a step or just not doing the right things, but hoping someone can help! Ideally id like to do a backup, get a new rom, get rid of the bloatware and play around!

Phone details:

SGS2 on Three
Gingerbread 2.3.3
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKF4
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280512 root@DELL151 #2
Odin v1.85

Cant think if im missing anything but please help! :)

Thanks shotgun - I did see that page earlier but it seems too 'specific', especially when thinking about installing custom roms after the cwm backup process. Is that right or am I missing something?

Just find the KF4 CF-Root package and flash with Odin. The handset will automatically reboot and.... that's all. You have root access and the CWM app is installed to provide a GS2-friendly user interface to the recovery. You'll now be able to backup without problems.

p.s. If you haven't already found it, I recommend a read of the S2 Root Guide. It's a handy compilation of the most useful information suggested by the forum members, so it's all battle-proven. ;)

Cant believe I was debating going down this route! Unrooted with superoneclick, downloaded CF Root kernel, flashed with odin 1.85 and when phone was rebooted cwm and superuser apps were both there.

Tried to do a backup straight from cwm but when I checked the file it came up as 0mb, so rebooted into recovery (cwm recovery...yess!) and did a manual backup from there. This really was a much easier route than either of the previous two efforts, suppose they are just not as compatible with the s2.

Now off to get rid of some bloatware and see what revolution rom and this kitchen is all about :) thanks guys and hope this helps someone else in my position
