Root Can't enable USB debugging to do a recovery because phone is stuck in a bootloop

Yeah, if you are unrooted then recovery is very limited. You should be able to get a recovery menu (press menu key while on the red triangle screen?) but all it will let you do is wipe the phone. Now if the cause is corrupt data that will fix it, if not it just erases your apps and data to no end.

I'm not sure I can think of much else to try apart from reflashing the software completely (using a ROM Upgrade Utility, a RUU). This will also wipe the phone. What were you hoping to do if you had usb debugging?

To choose an RUU we'll need to know whether the phone had network branded software, and if so which? And which country did you buy it in?

If it's hardware then repair is the only option.

I was thinking of flashing it with a ROM, but where do I get a suitable ROM? How do I check about the network branded software?

Thanks for the help.

Just to add ...my friends say the phone should be a CDMA. Is there anywhere I can download a ROM to flash the phone based on these details? :

Bravo PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2

Thanks!

Who did you buy it from?
And what does the splash screen (when you first boot) look like?
If you tell us your full software version (about phone menu) that might tell us too (not just android version, but the full info).

Eh..the main screen loads with the HTC logo, Android version 2.2

That's all I know...as I can't boot in anymore I don't know where else I can know that info.

I bought it from the service provider Maxis.

Unsure where everybody is from but I'm from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Is there a default RUU that I can use to try to flash the ROM ?

Sorry, what little time I've had online lately has been via phone rather than computer, which isn't ideal for researching RUUs.

No network logo on the splash screen is a good sign, but I don't know whether it would be the generic WWE (World Wide English) RUU you should try or an Asian region one. Or whether the phone might yet be Maxis specific? But the worst that happens if the phone has the wrong branding is that the RUU refuses to run (cid error), so you could try. The usual place for RUUs is shipped-ROMs.com - android phones, model = Bravo (NOT Desire!). Make sure it's Froyo, as there are some old ones there that won't work with that hardware. Will add some suggestions if have chance later.

By the way, that phone is not CDMA (PVT4 tells me that). The easy way to tell is whether you have a SIM card - if you have, it's GSM.

OK, quick glance through Shipped-ROMs' Bravo (GSM Desire) index.

My guess is that the HTC Asia RUU would be the most likely. In which case, there is one HTC Asia Froyo RUU there: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.13.707.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe

all of the other HTC Asia RUUs are older (Eclair), and are very unlikely to work with your device - being PVT4 means it has an LCD screen, whereas the early ones we AMOLED, and while newer ROMs will support either the old ones only work with AMOLED. Most likely they wouldn't run anyway - if your current software is newer, they aren't intended to downgrade it - but it's worth knowing not to try :)

If that one gives a CID error, the most recent generic WWE ROM is RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe.

If neither works, the options are either the make a "goldcard", which bypasses the cid (Customer ID) check, or try the 2.3 upgrade (which works on a wider range of handsets). But as noted above, if you have a warranty I'd suggest getting the phone fixed under that, and it's possible you have a hardware problem, in which case an RUU won't help you (and might carry a risk of making things worse if it fails at the wrong time).

To run the RUU, boot into fastboot mode (select "fastboot" from the hboot menu), connect to a PC via usb, then run the RUU .exe on the PC.

Good luck!

Hi, Thanks a million for the instructions where I followed till plugging in the phone to the pc, it detects the android 1.0 installation but it cannot find a driver to install. How shall I proceed? the RUU is unable to detect the phone if the USB installation for the android 1.0 cannot install the driver.

the command I should use for the fastboot to flash the RUU would be

fastboot flash <the path where the RUU is???>

is this the way?

No. Boot the phone while pressing the "back" key - that puts you in "fastboot" mode. Connect the phone via usb - should now say "fastboot usb" on the screen. Then run the ruu .exe on your PC and follow the instructions.

The screen does show the FASTBOOT USB but after running the RUU.exe it says

error (170) :usb connection error.

unsure how to proceed after this...

If you have the drivers installed, then I guess try turning off antivirus. Also if you every installed "HTC Sync" make sure that isn't running.

I found some posts talk about running RUUs in "compatability mode", though those were with Vista. May be worth a try (I'm not a Windows person, so not sure how to do that!).

Hi everybody,

I've installed the hboot drivers and I can see that when I plug my phone in, the computer management will have one tree created for android phone and when I expand that it shows Android Bootloader Interface.

So after the above is installed, I will see on my phone Fastboot USB, I ran the RUU.exe but I still get the error saying usb connection error.

What am I doing wrong at this point?

oh and I dun have HTC sync installed, or should I have it and just ensure it's not running?

Hi ...oh yes! Phone could be flash with the RUU!!

I didn't have the HTC sync installed, after installing the HTC sync, it worked like a charm! All done and working !

I like to thank everybody who helped me..I really appreciate the help!! Thanks again!!!
