Root Can't flash recovery

I'm gonna try out decks reloaded and want the smelkus recovery it mentions. Downloaded, renamed to PC36IMG.zip, went to recovery tried to apply update and it says directory can't be found or something. What is going on?

Well...2 things I would check.
1--make sure the md5 posted matches your download for smelkus
2--make sure you didnt add an extra .zip to the end. (I think Windows hides those extensions)

Edit: when you get decks reloaded installed, let me know how you like it. I'm seriously considering doing the same!!

if you used the HTCdev method you will not be able to do it the normal way. you will need to either use the adb method and command the .img file or you can use the android flasher method.
 
Which one of those is best and do you have a link? Thanks for the help. P.s. I think I just figured out what I've been doing wrong if I did its really stupid
 
Ok guys you can laugh bow it dawned on me what it was. I used tacoroot btw. I wasn't going into bootloader I was going into recovery. So 1 of my evos it worked fine on. My other evo there were some problems with when I rooted it and when I just tried it didn't work. Gonna try again if it doesn't work I will leave u the message it says

ahh taco root yes. then the PC36IMG file should work in the bootloader.

keep us posted.

Ha now you can laugh at me too cuz I didn't catch it in your op about you trying to flash the smelkus mod recovery PC36IMG thru recovery and not bootloader.
it is in bootloader you flash a new recovery....silly me too:o
 
Ok here us what happens. Bootloader loads and goes thru the list of things. They say Bo image or something. It always has I screwed up when I rooted somehow. After it dies that instead of asking to apply update it says parsing image I believe and goes on as if I am waiting for something. But nothing happened. Had to pull battery. Does that help?

how long are you waiting? it sounds like it is doing something. the parsing part is a good sign.

curious though do you have the link as to where you got it?
 
Under my file manager on cyanogen it the name of file is PC36IMG.zip. should I take the zip off or does it need to be there? Pretty sure it was there when it just worked on wife's evo

most file managers on the phone will show the extensions so there is no need to add a .zip if you already see one.
 
Sorry been gone a while. I don't have the link but it was the one recommended on the decks reloaded page and worked perfect on widest phone. when I rooted this after 2.3.5 I did something wrong and it has to do with recovery image it something. I just used Amon ra and flashed reloaded anyway and so far it's pretty amazing. Everything is the smoothest and clean I've ever seen. Got a lot of work to do on it but I have a feeling I'm not going to be flashing anything else
 
The smelkus recovery is cool (I personally use it), but you are perfectly fine flashing to your hearts content on Amon Ra 2.3


Smelkus allows you to have the phone autoreboot after nandroid backups and has the wiping scripts like superwipe built into it, but other than that its basically Amon Ra 2.3 with a few more features
