Root Can't flash ROMs, getting frustrated...

okay, i'm rooted using unrevoked (whichever version is online now) and i cant flash a rom. rom manager seems to always fail, and then when i go to recovery and install zip from sd card it'll go through and even load but seem to always get stuck on the boot animation. tried virusrom kingdom revolution today and i was on boot animation 3 hrs (while i slept). is it something i'm not doing/doing wrong? i've flashed gingersense rom and it worked, but that seems to be the only one other than stock.

Well you have to wipe everything before flashing. Kingdom is in beta and a lot of people can't get it running. Super wipe before kingdom, everything 3 times...

okay, i thought i saw that it does this itself. so do i just have to select to wipe data/cache and it should go through? thanks, be back in a few to let you know...

No offense and I'm not ribbing you here, but if you're new to flashing you may want to try a stable ROM first. There's a great list on here somewhere that has most of the Sense and AOSP ROMs with links provided. My apologies if you're not new to flashing. Also, you may want to download Calkulin's Format All file. I usually perform the following when I flash a new ROM: wipe all data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, and then flash Calkulin's. Then I flash my custom ROM.

I'm "new" to it all, but I am understanding most of what I end up doing. I just didnt know that I had to wipe data, I was hoping to keep my apps n settings (I know about Titanium too, just didnt wana go through it if I didnt have to). And I personally dont' mind a little trial and error, I feel like it helps me learn just that much more (if that makes sense to you all)...besides, I have Best Buy insurance so if I brick my phone (3 weeks ago) I can get another one for the Free.99

Thanks again for help

I've flashed lots of ROMs, including CM7, and I always do the following in recovery:

1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. advanced > wipe dalvick cache
4. Flash my desired rom
5. Reboot
6. Don't touch anything but wait 10 minutes (cache rebuild) and reboot again
7. Done :)

This practice has never caused me any problems and I've been following it on my last three android devices.

i would also recommend that you do everything manually through your recovery and not through rom manager. it tends to be buggy and create more issues then it is worth it to use. you never know when things will go wrong and you can't boot up.

+1 This has bitten me in the backside before too.

Not only can you avoid potential bugs, but you learn a bit about recovery as well. There may be a time when you need to work in recovery and you can't get into the phone UI itself so it's nice to know how to do things before hand.
