Help Cant Flash

Harlem Tech

Newbie
I recently tried to flash Damage Control Rom 5.3. In Rom manager I am unable to down load damage control as I get an error and none of those Roms show up. I got my hands on a Damage control Zip, followed all the steps dalvik wipe etc, booted into recovery and it goes half way and stops saying its done but gets stuck in a reboot loop. What I noticed is I can only flash Roms that are down loaded by Rom Manager directly. I can not flash any Rom just from the Zip as most claim. Do you have any ideas?
By the way I have a HTC Evo and I am running Rom manager Premium. Really hope you can help, thanks.

Have you tried getting away from clockork and trying ra as an alternate recovery? Or an earlier version of clockwork like 2.6?

Yes i have. but i am able to flash any other Roms. i believe i am just experiencing this problem with Damage Control Roms. I was able to flash cyanogen 6.1.2 Supersonic today with no hassles. Battery life is awsome too.

How many ROMs did you try to flash manually? Just the one, or several? Did you wipe data/cache/dalvik before flashing?
I tried to flash several Damage control Roms and it always stops half way and says Done! but i am able to flash any other Roms. i really wanted to try the damage control Rom because i keep hearing how great it is.

Where are you getting them from? Sounds like you're getting bad downloads.

i have been using google and checking different forums. i have 2 different Damage Control Roms down loaded from 2 different sources and both do the same. Cyanogen is nice but it seems very plain. i was using OMJ but the battery life was horrible.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure damage control is based on an older OTA.

1) What version of Damage Control are you trying to flash
2) What is your hboot version
3) What is your radio version
4) What is (was) your software version (or software version when you rooted/accepted last OTA)?

1. Damage Control 3.5 and 3.6
2. 0.79.0000
3. 1.39.00.04.26
4. Current software is Androd version 2.2 and curent Rom (just Fashed) is FreshEvo 3.5.0.1

Seriously? Ok, well:

1) Damage Control is a little out of date. It was built off 3.29.651.5 (radio version 2.15.00.09.01). The latest OTA is 3.70.651.1.
2) Hboot version doesn't really matter, I just wanted to know what the last OTA you accepted was,
3) You really need to consider updating your radios. Here's the problem - you're trying to flash newer ROMs while your radios are seriously outdated. I'm honestly surprised you're not having problems with anything you try to flash.

Here's what you need to do:

1) Update your radios/pri/nv to the latest using the combo update found here:

[ Radios ][ 12-17 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers

If you really want damage control that badly, you'd have to either flash the radio version prior to the latest OR flash a different kernel, and keep your PRI at 1.77 (one before the latest), but more on that later.

2) Flash whatever ROM you want in the same recovery session from when you flash the radios. This step is sort of general, and assumes you haven't already flashed a ROM. As you've already managed to get Fresh 3.5 working, you could skip this step. Just make sure you keep the zip for that ROM on the root of your sdcard just in case you need to reflash it.

3) Should you decide you want Damage Control, you'll need to use the radio versions prior to the latest or flash a different kernel, as I said above. The second option is probably the easiest. If you want more information on this, I can give it to you, but you're better off going with one of the ROMs that gets updates. Fresh is fine if you want to stick with that. There are a host of them available here:

HTC Supersonic/ROMs - XDA-Developers

For more in depth instructions on all of the above, see the Rooting for Dummies guide, section 6 under "after rooting".

Yeah, it can be overwhelming keeping up with all of this. It doesn't take being out of the loop for more than a couple weeks to completely lose track of everything new. Good luck, and let me know if you need any more help.

After reading all the info you gave me to look up I am both tired and my eyes hurt. I have just a few questions if you don't mind.
1. How do I know when my radios need updating and where can I go to be certain I'm always getting the latest.
2. I was trying to flash an old ROM as you said so how can I find the latest Roms and reviews.
3. Which Roms do you recommend and Kernels?

3. Which Roms do you recommend and Kernels?

1) You can find you radio and PRI versions by going to menu->settings->about phone->software information. You can find your wimax version by opening a terminal emulator, type su, then typing wimax_mtd. It will run through some tests, and at the top, you'll see the version. I don't think anyone has a good way to check NV. Basically, these things are typically (but not always) updated with each new OTA. If you want to flash a ROM based on a new OTA you should (and sometimes have to) flash the radios along with it. You can always get the latest here:

[ Radios ][ 12-17 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers

The links inside say which of each (radio/wimax/pri/nv) are the latest. If you don't have the latest from checking above, you need them if you want to flash a ROM based on the latest (again, most of the time).

2) You can find a list of all ROMs here:

HTC Supersonic/ROMs - XDA-Developers

You can see in the fourth column what software version the ROM is based on. Right now, the latest OTA sw version is 3.70.651.1. So, if you want to flash a ROM based on that, you must flash the latest radios as well (some people have issues with the latest PRI, and have flashed the previous version, 1.77, to fix it). If you want reviews, you can search through the rooting section here, as there are numerous threads discussing it. The Rooting for Dummies guide also have a few reviews.

3) Myn's Warm and Mikfroyo are good ROMs. Others will have their own favorites. If you're going to stick with a Sense based ROM (rather than AOSP), netarchy is one of the best kernels out there. I recommend you do two things:

a) Stick with the stock ROM after flash a ROM for at least a couple charge cycles just to see how it works. Then consider flashing a kernel.

b) Read up on the various aspects of a custom kernel. If you need direction on this one, let me know.

Here's a list of some kernels:

HTC Supersonic/Kernels - XDA-Developers

Unfortunately, it's quite out of date (this stuff moves quickly :)), but it *does* have the links to each kernel, where you can find the actual versions. Click the netarchy link to go to the thread for it, where you will find all the versions.
