Root Cant get any rom to load....

So like i posted last night i realized i was putting them on the phone itself not the SD, so I tried getting Warm Z i tried both versions with clockwork 3.X and with RA no go, also tried Skyraider, and they either dont install in recovery or it hangs at the white HTC Incredible screen....any suggestions?

So you do have them on the SD card now? And are you doing a full wipe directly prior to loading? Can you describe the exact steps you're taking?

yeah i got em on the sd ive flashed my evo a few times now....but errt on the wipe could that be the problem? trying a wipe now, and am i better off using RA or clockwork 3.x on his incredible?
\
edit: its 3.0.0.5

hmm on a complete wipe it said
Formatting /sd-ext...
E:format_volume: make_ext4f4s failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
then said complete

It probably said something like skipping format of sd-ext or similar. That's normal since your card likely isn't partitioned.

My advice if you have future problems is to wipe data, wipe cache, then under the advanced menu, wipe dalvik cache all back to back. Then load the Rom from SD card. I'm only familiar with Clockwork, not RA. There has been some reported issues using 3.0.5 when loading certain Roms (Sense I believe) so if that happens, you may want to revert to an earlier version of Clockwork or try an alternate recovery.

yeah i updated it -__- and the older versions have nothing in the 2.x range(thru ROM Manager)...any way to go back that far for clockwork?

I wouldn't change anything unless you need to. But if that's the case, our good friend Doug Piston has 2.5.1.2 if needed here:
Inc. Recoveries | doug piston

It's in PB31IMG form which means you place it on the root of the SD card, then go into hboot where it should prompt you to load after a few seconds. Use volume up to accept and load then do NOT interrupt it. Make sure you have a solid battery before doing this also.

ah ok so before i go to revert warm z should load with a 3.x build? which 3 version is the most stable to use? If not i also got skyraider on the SD for a backup rom if the warm didnt load.

can you check md5 sums of the roms youre trying to flash? i have an app that will perform jar verifications and if it fails, you wont be able to flash it with RA or clockwork if you have the "signiture verification" toggled on.

i use RA_GNM exclusively. when a rom wont install, its usually because its got a bad file and fails the jar verification. toggling the signiture verification off will usually let the rom install. obviously bad things can happen when not using the signiture verification, but unfortunately, prolly half the roms ive flashed have not passed the jar verification. it surprises me how many incredible developers dnot even list md5 sums... with the eris this was permantly etched into our brains ;)

this is why usually an install that fails on RA will usually install just fine with clockwork since the signiture verification is off by default.

the 100% best way to avoid issue,is to leave the signiture verification on so that you cannot accidentally flash an incomplete rom ro bad download,so use this info at your own discretion.

the other thing that comes to mind is that clockwork 3.x.x.x will not install sense based roms-wich is warm twopointtwo and skyrader 3.5. for sense roms you will need to use clockwork 2.5.x.x or RA

hope that helps :)

well the one installed but it just hung at the htc boot screen....hmm how exactly can i get the MD5's ive only seen em on websites and tbh i never paid attention to em :P

bah i just saw the last line of your post yes i updated to 3.0.5

the developers need to list them. eris roms the developer always listed the md5 in first post, but that doesnt seem to always be the case here. :( youll have to search the thread,or ask the developer for the info.

to do a jar verification get "scary alines android file verifier" app from the market. heres a link to the online market: https://market.android.com/details?id=sa.afv&feature=search_result yuo can install it right to your phone from there :)

if the developer has listed the md5 sum,you can use the app to check the md5 sum of your download and make sure it matches. if the md5 sum isnt known, then you can do a jar verification.

so far ive only tried a few incredible roms,but... liquidmetal, uber z,and business sense have all failed the jar verification, and therefore wont install via RA_GNM unless i toggle the signiture verify off. again,im not neccesarily recomending you do this, but so far doing it hasnt produced any hangups or bad things for me.

get the app and check the MD5 of the 3.x.x.x version download. if it matches, you should be able to use clockwork 3.x.x.x to install it.

maybe you are simply not giving the white screen enuff time? the first boot can take several minutes.

we gave it 20 mins at the white screen i mean i pulled the battery at that point cause my EVO took nowhere near that long so i figured it was just hanging there

power your phone off. power it on while holding volume down. it will boot into the hboot screen. if you have placed the correctly named, correct zip file on the root level of a FAT32 formatted SD card, then hboot will see the file and ask you if you want to update.

it went into the normal white screen and it flashed some quick green text about the PB31IMG.zip and then it didnt do anything abou the recovery -__- bah idk why this is such a project to get a rom on here my evo was a breeze i dont understand arent they basically the same lol

edit: sorry im a bit slow on this lol...just didnt have to go this deep before haha

It wont work unless you have formatted your card to fat32.

what he said^. the first time i tried it,it wouldnt fine the file, and i found my card to just be formatted "fat" not "fat32". i understand another common error is that windows will automagically add the ".zip" so if you rename the file "PB31IMG.zip" your phone may be seeing it as "PB31IMG.zip.zip"

if youre using a windows computer, just rename the file "PB31IMG" and move it to your SD card. assuming it is formatted fat32 ;)

do i apply the clockwork mod as if im flashing a rom thru that same menu? (apply zip from sd?)

no. when the file is found,in hboot it will ask "do you want to update? vol up yes/vol down no" if you dont get this prompt, either your card is formatted incorrectly,or the file isnt named correctly.

if you downloaded from the link above, all youll need to do is rename the file and move it. if the download came from elsewhere, click on the file on your pc and make sure that the file you need isnt contained within the file. some downloads will need unzipped to find the correct file. what you want to see when you click on your download is a text document(android-info) and a disc image file(recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2).

if all that sounds a little confusing, just download from the link above in this thread. its what you need.

yeah i got the old clockwork from the above site, im assuming the card isnt fat32, how do i format it that way do i do it thru the phone or do i do it thru windows?

Use Windows. I'd advise you do a full format instead of the "quick format" option. Also, be damn sure you are formatting the card and not the internal storage. It's an easy error if you're not careful since they both show up as drives. You don't want to deal with the problems that can create.

I'm sure you're aware that you'll lose the contents of the card upon formatting so move anything you want to keep onto the PC desktop. You can move it back to the card after the format.
