Root Cant get into recovery mode on htc evo 4g android v 2.3.3

been running the evo classic v 0.0.4 and i love it... it's simple but works great... some nice little tweaks.. i love the "remove icon bubble and text"... i like the "just icon" look...
and the remove battery from status bar... i always thought i've got this big a$$ clock on my home screen, i don't need that little one on the top... nice clean look... JM2CW

Im new to this thread but my evo is unlocked but it is s-on and my tether works. Does that mean it is not rooted?. When i go into recovery my phone also shows an evo and a red triangle. Can someone post a link to help

No, it simply means you have the stock recovery. There are instructions in the rooting for dummies gingerbread edition guide for how to switch recoveries.

And your WIFI tether doesn't work becuase you are still on the stock ROM.

Also, since you have H-boot 2.18 S-ON doesnt matter. If the bootloader is unlocked you have what you need to do to flash a ROM

EDIT: Rx ninja'd me!! :D

Ok, you've completed the first part of the new root method for the evo. You no longer "need" to have s-off to flash custom roms and kernels. It does make things a little easier, but the new hboot is a little more difficult to achieve s-off.

What you have there is the stock recovery, what you need to do is flash a custom recovery like amon-ra, or the newer amon-ra style recovery. What you need to do now is complete the steps in the updated root guide to get a custom recovery and then flash the superuser file, then you'll be rooted. :)

The guide you need is here:

As you can see there are 3 methods to root your phone. I highly recommend you use the htcdev method, method 1. Once you have more experience and understand the terminology, etc, then try the Cap'ns method. The 2nd (the Cap'ns) and the third (taco root) take a lot more time and diligence, and can be a p.i.t.a. if you are unsure of what you are doing.

You've already unlocked your bootloader, so you can skip to step two under the htcdev method. Flash a custom recovery then do step three to get superuser. Once you do this you're good to go, and get your flash on! :D

If you get stuck, let us know, we'll get you fixed up. :)

Assuming you have windows......

Download file (easiest if on desktop)
Plug in phone to computer, select mount as disk drive
Open up "My Computer"
Drag and drop file on the drive representing your phone.

Ok so you have a bit of reading to do first. Your not rooted I take it. Can You type out what is on your hboot screen. If it says S-On you will need to turn that off. Read the Dummies Guide in My Sig. It is very well documented and will lead you to the right path.

I cant find your guide in your sig, can you please help

Sigs stop displaying after the first time that person posts in the thread. You'll have to find his first post or go to the sticky thread at the top of the forum
