Help Can't get market app to update

I seem to have caused a problem with my market app. and caused it to revert to the previous market. My phone is an Alltel branded, non-rooted, 2.1 update 1, regular desire.

I wanted to clear me search history in the market app. Yesterday, at the suggestion of many people online, I cleared the cache (which didn't clear the history on it's own) then uninstalled the market update (which did clear the history). My understanding was that next time the market loaded it would update again to the latest version. This has not been the case. I've looked for a solution online and have tried, clear cache and force close, force close and clear cache, clear cache and don't force close, and every permutation of the above with reboot phone mixed in.

So far I have been stuck with the old market. I read on another forum that I also need to clear te market data, but I do not have this option in my manage applications dialog (I have "Clear cache", and "Force stop", along with "Clear defaults" which is always greyed out).

Suggestions?
 
Thanks for the feedback. Ironically enough, it did finally update, just not till after I gave up trying.

I tried everything under the sun in all combinations, sent tech support request to google, posted (an unanswered) message on google's android market help forum, ... and finally stopped worrying about it because I had other things to think about. After 3 days it updated on its own.

The only change was I uninstalled my task killer app after reading the article you posted (wrote?) on another thread. The think is I wasent using the autokill feature and only manually stopped apps that I never used anyway (like the stock peep, flicker, stocks, news, and footprints apps) so I can't see how this could have been the difference.
 
hah, maybe not but you never know, system apps might have some dependency somewhere on that update :P
