Root Can't get right

I posted sometime last week about having problems after rooting 2.3.3. My phone would restart by itself and be stuck on bootloop until I flashed another rom or kernel. I tried several different rom/kernel combos to no avail. I finally switched back to a stock rom, and I can't use the S-ON tool because my HBOOT is too new (6.16.1002). Even back on the stock rom I've found that Youtube will cause the phone to reboot as will "Dragon, Fly!" (a game). I was debating on taking it back to Best Buy and telling them it keeps rebooting and play dumb otherwise. Anyone got any other ideas? Does anyone have a newer phone (newer HBOOT) that is rooted and not having any problems? I would really like to flash back to synergy or Mik.

it could be a hardware issue. about 2-3 months ago my phone started to randomly reboot itself. tried everything like you flashed different roms and wiped the crap out of it and still same thing. i even unrooted and the same thing happened. i then took it in to sprint and they replaced it for me.

you should try doing the unrooting process i have outlined in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html. it should work for you with best buy. the only difference for you is that you will have s-off, but i really doubt that they will notice the difference. the PC36IMG file will give you a stock rom and a stock recovery. that is the key. you can't flash anything with a stock recovery.

my friend had his evo replaced by best buy and he got a phone that was previously rooted (his original phone was not). it had s-off but a stock rom installed with clockwork mod recovery even! so i doubt that they even know what to look for in a rooted phone.

so try another rom or so to verify that it still does the same thing. and if it does then follow the guide and take it in. also see if you can reproduce the reboot issue with the stock rom.

I guess I failed to mention that I already did follow that guide on unrooting. I do still have the same issue with the stock rom. After loading the stock PC136IMG file several times I still don't have a stock recovery. When I try to go into recovery I get the red phone/exclamation point sign. It still looks like amon is there, just corrupted or something.

If all else fails and you have insurance just take out the battery and SD card and call sprint and tell them you lost your phone. They will overnight a replacement to you (or so my rep told me).

sorry but i do not condone lying. it is why the premium for the insurance on phones keep going up.

I can definitely appreciate your position on this subject and respect you for it. As this is your home and not mine I will refrain from posting this advice again.

Actually the stock recovery will look like that. It is not something that we can use but something that is used by the OTA to update your phone. You should be good to go if you have flashed the ruu PC36IMG file.

nope that red triangle is what you want. it means that you do not have access to the stock recovery. so you are good to go.

edit:thanx xtreme beat me to it. keep it up. speed demon you.:)

Nice to know that about the stock recovery. My insurance is through best buy, so I guess I'll be taking it back as soon as I get a chance.

When we root our phones, we take and accept the risk of bricking our phones. In this case it seems to be a hardware issue so they should take care of it. If I had bricked my phone or caused issues related to rooting it, I would have to accept the fact that I screwed up. I agree with Ocn, lying is not the right way to do it. If you have to cheat to get something, then you don't deserve it in the first place. Just my .02 :)
