Root Can't revert to stock

A few months ago, I rooted using this method here, but I never installed a custom rom after that. Since Asadullah no longer supports his software, I wish to revert to stock so I can try another method of rooting and possibly even try a custom rom.

I've kept his rooting software on my computer and never touched it since the day I used it. So today I run it and choose number 3 which is supposed to revert my phone back to it's stock rom just like the phone was brand new. But choosing 3 and hitting the enter key does absolutely nothing. So now I'm stuck and have no fricken clue what to do or where to go from here. Before I touch anything, I'm posting here for help so I don't totally screw up my phone.

if you're already rooted, there's no need to go back and do it differently...
unless you want unrooted stock rom for a service return or something.
you just need to install a custom recovery to install another rom.
asadullah posted the manual version of what that software does, here
you should have a recovery.img in the files you have saved, probably one stock recovery and one custom recovery.
post your file list from your old download and I'll tell you what to type and such.
 
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why do I need to install a second custom recovery? Is this necessary? (An honest question I promise.. not being a smartass lol.)

Where would these recovery.img and custom.img files be located?

When you say you will tell me what to type, I don't understand. There's nowhere to type in that window. You just type in a number and hit your enter key on your pc's keyboard.

Actually that's not the same thing. Both are rooting, but using different software. I'm using the software that he wrote himself.
 
Are you reverting to stock because he no longer supports his program?? It doesn't matter how you rooted, once your rooted... your good. So basically your rooted but your thinking about the possibility of installing a ROM. Ok great because the hard part is already over. I'm just assuming your rooted with a custom recovery (unless I read your response wrong). All you have to do now is put a ROM of your choice on your sd card and the gapps, backup your current ROM and flash the ROM and gapps. If I'm totally missing your point then I appologize.
 
I want to unroot this phone using the same software I used to root it. It matters not why I want to unroot.

Any and all help with unrooting my phone using the same software I used to root it is very much appreciated. :)
 
the tool you're talking about uses fastboot to flash .img files to the phone without you having to type the commands.
if you look in the script you're running to try to unroot with a text editor, you'll see those commands. they're the same as the ones in the post I linked to.
if the tool isn't working, you'll have to type the commands in manually to see where it's not working.
you type in a ms-dos command window.
the file list i'm referring to is in the folder that unpacked from the zip you downloaded long ago.

most likely you don't need to unroot for what you said you want to do in the first post (install a custom rom) and you certainly don't need to use asadullah's deprecated fastboot root tool to do anything else on your phone, but if you insist on doing so, i'm going to need the error messages you're not seeing because you're using the script instead of typing the fastboot commands one at a time in a console window.
so I need more information before I can help. even though I think you don't need the old tool to get to your desired objective.
I don't have a copy of the original zip to reference, and it can't be downloaded anymore, so you have to give more information to get .
edit: upload a copy of the zip if you don't want to give a file list.
sorry to sound snotty, but when you want help with something that isn't supported by it's developer, and isn't even available anymore to look at it's contents, you're going to have to go to extra trouble to get assistance using it.
 
Ah, ok. I see what you're saying. I didn't really understand what you wanted exactly.

Here is the file you asked for. At the moment I have the folder sitting on the root of my c drive (C:\vmfastboot).

When I hit Home+ Volume Down+Power it shows at the bottom of the screen (is this the recovery window?) Build: RA-thunderc-1.1.0-GNM

Wasn't sure if you needed this information, but thought I would include it just in case.

If there's anything else that you need, try to be very specific as I'm a root newb and don't understand a lot of the lingo, and am very rusty with DOS commands. I only rooted my phone to get rid of ads, so I haven't done anything else with the phone really accept decorate my desktops.

Something else I think I should include; at the time when I followed his root script, I was under the impression that hitting 1 would save a backup of my phone (everyone says when you root, always do a backup) so I did hit that one first. Looking at it now, I'm not so sure it does that so now I'm wondering if I even have a backup.

Have you looked in the clockworkmod folder on the sd card, this is where most ROM backups are stored. You should have this folder if a backup was made.
 
Where would I find this folder? I don't see it anywhere obvious in ES File Manager (I have hidden files set to show, and path set to /).
 
explore your sd card with your pc, and search for "nandroid.md5" in it. That folder will have the backup.
thunderc recovery puts the backups somewhere different than cwm or xionia. I forget where.

if you want to check for the backup with the phone, boot recovery, select to backup&restore, select restore, and if it lists anything after that it's your backup. if there aren't any selections after restore then you probably don't have a backup on that sd card.
 
I went the recovery screen method. The error said: E:Couldn't open directory /sdcard/nandroid/

I'm still on that screen, in case you have any instructions.
 
I should of read exactly what you said. When selecting Restore there's a ton of stuff in there about Nand. The first thing on the list is "Nand Backup"... several ones down though is "Nand Restore". That's the one that gives me the error.
 
I haven't used thunderc since I first rooted in march or april, whenever I got the phone.
There may be a backup on the card but with the error you got there probably isn't one.
I'm looking at the tool now.
 
If you guy that error after selecting restore, then you don't have a backup. If I were you, I would make one now. Go back to your recovery and select backup and restore then select backup. It will make a backup (an exact copy of everything on your phone) and save it on you sd card.please do this before making any changes to your rom, recovery or system. That way just in case something goes wrong, you will be able restore your phone to the way it is now.

but if you go completely stock, you won't be able to restore that backup unless you install another another custom recovery.

as far as the fastbootroot tool goes, when you try to revert, does your phone reboot into a blue screen with some text?
If not, the PC isn't connecting with it right. m$ windoze is well known to have problems with losing access to these phones over time. you'd have to uninstall and reinstall the lg drivers in that case.
 
I think it's important that I have a backup. I can do another recovery later if needed? I don't think the fastbootroot is connecting to the phone. I'll uninstall the drivers with Revo Uninstaller in a sec, and then reinstall them.

Which do I choose for the backup?

I'd do the second one down. Also the 2nd up from the bottom (backup google proprietary).

if you want to root again later after reverting to stock, you'll definitely need a custom recovery for backups and to install custom ROMs. thunderc recovery works for backups and installing older ROMs, but it's the oldest one out for the OV and doesn't support the edify scripting used on the newer ROMs.

after you reinstall the drivers, you may have to reinstall the fastboot drivers from the tool as well after it's able to reboot into the bootloader (I'm not sure if asadullah ever got the driver install to work in the script, I remember it was labelled experimental)
it may work better if you have the phone booted into recovery before trying to use the fastbootroot tool.
and you'll want to point windows to the c:/vmfastboot/tools/fastbootdrivers/windowsxp/ folder if it gives you the chance. If it doesn't ask, it still has the drivers stored, and you can probably use the tool with no problems if it's able to reboot into the bootloader.
 
I uninstalled the LG drivers and even wiped any entries from the registry, and then rebooted my machine. Then I reinstalled them. Put the phone in USB Debugging and plugged it in to USB. It installed more drivers.

While the drivers were being installed I did the Nand Backup and a backup of the Google Proprietary apps, so those are done.

Battery is at 56%.

Did you want me to plug the phone back in, put it in USB Debugging, reboot into recovery, and then run fastbootroot.bat on my pc and press 4 (experimental install xp drivers)? I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
 
usb debugging doesn't affect recovery, that's one reason I suggested doing it that way. Custom recoveries are good about letting adb run as root and allowing you to do whatever you want to the phone. It wouldn't hurt to turn debugging on, though, and if it was turned off when you tried the tool last time that's probably why it wouldn't reboot into the bootloader.

when you run fastbootroot.bat, run it as administrator since you're using something later than XP, to make sure it has the needed permissions.
I'd try to use it to revert first, I wouldn't bother trying to install the fastboot drivers with the tool unless the device is unrecognized when you try to revert.
 
I turned on USB Debugging and plugged in the phone. Ran fastbootroot.bat as admin and tried 3 for revert to stock again. Nada. Nothing happens.

Can I ask you something? Would I be able to flash a new custom recovery and then do a custom rom? I've come this far already, guess I will skip unrooting and rerooting.
 
you can use adb shell in recovery to revert if you're willing to type in a command prompt, using the files in the fastbootroot package.
