Root Can't Root 'Cause Cant Get To USB PLUG

Thanks! I had tried this before but I tried again. I uninstalled the HTC drivers & reinstalled the ones that you pointed me to. Walked through all of the steps. Once again, Revolutionary hangs indefinitely on "waiting for device." I do not have HTC synch (or anything else that I'm aware would communicate with my phone) installed.

Any other ideas? Am I right that I may be banging my head against a wall when the only real issue is that the micro USB on the phone is messed up and no longer supports data transfer?

do you have usb debugging turned on?
well it is a possibility that it could be hardware related. have you tried a different cable?

Try just a plain old picture transfer from your pc to your phone or vice-versa.
Does the 'puter recognize the phone at all when not trying to root?
Did you do a factory reset by chance?
Try that and see if the 'puter recognizes the phone.

I do have USB debugging turned on. I have done a factory reset. I have tried 4 different cables, including one that I know works as a data cable for a co-worker's phone.

Unless the Windows error message I get every time I connect the phone (unknown device) actually indicates it has made a successful data connection, I see no evidence this phone can successfully connect via a cable to a PC.
