Root Can't root LG Optimus V after SW Update

Recently in the Resources section on the LG Optimus V phone product page via Virgin Mobile's website; was a release of an update to the phone's software. The phone's software is originally VM670ZV5 but the new update would make the phone VM670ZV9.

I undid root via Gingerbreak and updated the phone. Now I'm unable to get Gingerbreak to work in rooting my phone so I can remove the bloatware that was added back during the update. I don't want to custom rom my phone; I just want to root it but keep it on stock rom.

Please let me know if there is a solution available or when one becomes available. I'm desperate for help. I need a simple and easy solution that won't involve adb or any advanced measures. If someone could email the creator of Gingerbreak or possibly point them to this post; I'd be so thankful!
 
Seems like they might have changed it so Gingerbreak will not work anymore. Probably no more WiFi tether with Quick Settings. If there was a security update, most likely the browser was fixed as there is a widely publicized flaw in it.
 
This is why you should read before flashing. You are going to have to give the devs some time working on this. I'm sure we will be able to root it again, but it will take time (especially since we are working on ICS 4.0, and this is 2.2.2 ;))
 
I made the same mistake. I was browsing Virgin's site two days ago and noticed the update and installed it. This is my first android phone and it didn't even occur to me that it might break root or to research it first. I was running the stock rom, just rooted.

So, a new way to root this would be greatly appreciated!
 
Well, here's the issue: I don't currently know of any devs with an extra phone laying around, so I don't know of anyone willing to risk not being able to re-root after this update.

If anyone has an old OV they want to donate to the cause, I'm pretty sure we can work out a new root solution in a matter of days.

For now, try the old fashioned method of rooting using SuperOneClick (ROM Tools has the easiest implementation), and please let us know if it works for you. ;)
 
I've tried SuperOneClick, the latest version 2.3.3, an older version with the Gingerbreak exploit, and 1.6.3. All trying to do a shell root. They all hang up. JerryScript: what's the ROM Tools implementation of SuperOneClick?

I've also tried the Gingerbreak apk many times.

I'd be willing to lend out my phone to a dev if that's what it will take to get a new root exploit.

OK, here you go, normal warnings apply, this may and probably will brick your phone! ;)

ONLY FLASH THIS IF YOU COULD JUST AS EASILY THROW IT IN THE LAKE RIGHT NOW!
I mean it, this is not safe, do not even attempt it unless you don't mind your phone being bricked!

I have edited the ramdisk to set ro.secure=0, added xbin, superuser.apk, su, busybox, bash, nano, flash_image, erase_image, and all the symlinks to the various busybox tools.

I removed the recovery patcher, added BobZhome's recovery, and modified the updater-script to flash it at the end, as well as added output so if it errors out we know which part of the process it got to.

I only recommend flashing with BobZhome's recovery, definitely not with Drew's touch-recovery!

I made a lot of changes big/small, so any one could bork the entire process. Thanks for trying this out!

PM me if you understand the risks, and are willing to test. I will PM you back with further warnings to be sure you understand the risks before finally PMing you with the link. It's that dangerous. ;)

Hi folks, I'm new to the android forums, and saw this thread while researching the VM670ZV9 update. I haven't updated yet, and based on the frustrations you all have had, I'm hesitant to update at all. (I haven't rooted my phone, but am considering it.) Does anyone know what changes this update includes? I'm currently running VM670ZV4, and having bluetooth compatibility issues with my new JVC car stereo. I'm wondering if VM670ZV9 would affect this at all. Thanks!
