Root can't seem to unroot

I've done everything in the rooting for dummies guide to try and get S-ON. I flashed the PC36IMG first. Then I deleted the PC36IMG, renamed the long named file to PC36IMG and flashed that. I still have S-OFF. What am I doing wrong?

I originally unrooted with revolutionary when the device was pre gingerbread. I'm now trying to unroot with the revolutionary son tool but when I enter recovery I get the red traingle and phone thing.

Do I need to flash a recovery mode then try get the revolutionary son tool to install?

At one point I was able to enter recovery and tried flashing the revolutionary tool but it wouldn't work because radio didn't match or something. Might have been because I did the wrong unroot to begin with? What should I do to stop from chasing my tail in circles?

The PCIMG file you updated gave you a stock recovery. You need to do the S-ON tool first. Download amon ra and update that so you have a custom recovery to do so with.

Im in class or I'd link you

Yes, correct gentlemen.
You lost your recovery, do as stated, flash the files and you "should" be good to go.
Question is, why do you want to unroot?

Ok, I flashed the Amon recovery.

I then flashed the PCIMG6.17.

The thing is, I didn't need amon recovery to flash the pcimg6.17, since that's done from hboot right?

Anyways, I flashed the 2 files linked above from hboot and I still have S-OFF. The PCIMG6.17.zip flashes fine and says update complete. I reboot the device. Power off, then go back in Hboot and still have S-OFF.

I tried flashing the unrevoked S-ON from recovery and it gives me installation aborted due to:

E: unsupported radio version
E: Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log
E: Error in /sdcard/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
(Status 42)

Installation aborted.

Ok, got it.

I flashed the pcimg6.27.zip. Still didn't have S-On, so I did some digging at XDA forums.
Flashed amon recovery.
Flashed older radios.
Flash lastest RUU img or run the RUU.exe.

S-ON!
