Root Cant Start Moto Droid... constant red light?

hayden...

Newbie
Okay, so i recently rooted my droid, and wanted to increase my phone's speed... so i installed "ChevyNo1-1.25Ghz-OC-5slot-update.zip" via 'ROM Manager. Now, it wont start up, it just starts and a constant red light turns on (same as when battery is low, but constant) It shows the battery empty but it wont let me charge it, so i dont know what to do.. I'm terrified. Please help! :/

I had this happen to me once also. It was a bad (wrong) kernel. I was able to power up holding X to restore a backup :)

yep. i installed FRF75-update.zip, and it worked fine but i wanted to increase the speed, so i got the chevyno1 and now im stuck.

Yea that happens when a 2.1 kernel is used on a 2.2 rom. It happened to me because the kernel was marked incorrectly as being a 2.2 kernel. Restore your last backup and try a different kernel.

Also, 1.25 is super fast and many Droids cannot handle it. You may want to try a 1.2 or 1.1 first.

I use a Chevy 1.2 ULV or ultra low voltage kernel. Very fast and is fairly battery friendly. I recommend this or the LV version. Chevy and P3 make my 'phone's' favorite kernels but YMMV.

All of the kernels at this link are by Chevy and all SHOULD be for Froyo, or 2.2. Again, I would not recommend anything above 1.2 until you're sure your phone can handle it. No permanent damage will occur, but you'll be sent into a bootloop and will need to restore a previous backup you made.

Great! Then turn your phone off, boot into recovery by holding "X" and hitting the power button.

Navigate to restore, and restore whatever backup you would like. It will take about 10 minutes, then you should be able to plug your phone into the computer and do whatever you need.

the ironic thing for me was ... after I got the RLOD (red light of death) fixed on my phone .... the my Xbox 360 got the RROD (red ring of death) I got a buddy that is trying to fix it right now :)

Oh man, that's just bad luck.

*couch* you should just get a PS3 *couch* :p

umm im not sure what happened but its not doing anything now... well, when i plug it in to the computer, the usb port glows, which it didnt do before but otherwise nothing... it wont even let me go back to the recovery menu.... *panicking* :/

I had the same thing happen to me, I accidentally installed a 2.1 kernal for Froyo. The suggestions above worked for me, but since none have worked for you, this will probably work.

It's the second post about not having to worry about bricking your phone. It'll take about 30 mins or so for your phone to be up and running again and it will be like it was when you first got it.

Regarding the recovery menu issue, this is a known issue. To fix this:

Go to Rom manager > Flash alternate recovery > and flash it.

Then go to the top of the menu and flash Clockworkmod Recovery again.

For some reason, if you cannot get into recovery, just flash alternate recovery and flash clockworkmod again. Even if it doesn't work the first time, try it again. It should work.

havent seen this mentioned here yet but have you tried booting to the boot loader menu? if that works you can always run RSD lite and return to 2.0 just reroot. I know personally RSD has been my best friend

okay. now its doing nothing, i cant get to bootloader, i cant get to recovery, driver wont find it and it wont turn on... but for some odd reason, the usb port is glowing as if theres nothing wrong. becoming desperate for some answers.
