Root Can't use RUU to S-OFF

So I've been searching and so far I've seen the wire trick. Is that the only way to achieve S-off or is there another (simpler) approach?

Wire trick is the best and safest method to use! There's another another method (though I'm not 100% sure if it works with EVO v, but it's a lot more risky and involves bricking the device. It's not for the faint of heart.

For the wire trick, follow this guide and you should be golden: http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/695161-s-off-root-fix-everything-all-in-one.html

For more information on the other method, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695

Thanks for the quick response. I hate to be a burden, but I have one last question: I started to root my device yesterday, and due to the rom I flashed, the wifi, 4G and mobile hotspot have given me errors. Is it a kernel problem? And if so, I have flashed 3 different kernels yet when I go to the kernel menu in the settings, it's the same kernel that was flashed with the first rom. I don't think I should be flashing anything else until I can resolve this problem. Any suggestions?

Nevermind, I realized that I needed to enable smartflash every time I boot into recovery to flash a rom. Thanks anyway :)

PS: Can I call you Dave for short?

Haha! You watch code monkeys?

By the way, you can set 4ext up to have smart flash enabled by default.

Go here on your phone's Web browser: http://4ext.net
and click the free app download at the top (4ext recovery updater)

Install the app. Go through all the prompts in the app and when it asks if you are s-on say yes.

Once you choose a recovery version to install from the online|upgrade menu (i think) it will automatically flash a new recovery for you.

Anyway, when you tell the app that you are s-on, it enables smartflash by default when you flash the recovery via the app.
