Root Capacitative button is bananas

Has anyone else had a capacitative button go bad? My "Recent Apps" button has gone beserk, it is constantly on, so my phone just flashes between home screen and the Recent Apps screen. It has been doing this for about 1 day now, and makes the phone completely useless. Anybody see this before?

I was running the latest MeanROM...tried complete wipe, restore to previous MeanROM, restore to stock...happens with all ROMs. I assume that means it is a hardware issue?

that is what it sounds like to me. it has not happened to me on the mean rom. so when you say "restore from stock", do you mean you ran a ruu? if so then i would say this is a hardware issue.

Easy as that? I thought about running a ruu a while ago (for other reasons) and after looking into it I thought it was more complicated than just running the ruu? I am not s-off.

not sure if it will lock you backup or not running the ruu. but the link gives you exe files that you just run on the pc. pretty simple.

meh...yeah, that is why I didn't do it way back when, seemed like too many hoops to jump through. Maybe Sprint won't care!

So I did bring it back to a Sprint Corp Store, they said that it was basically the same thing as a touch screen failure, but the tech said he hadn't seen it happen before, but there was nothing they could do to fix it so they gave me a new one. No issues with it being rooted as they didn't even know or check. They did however charge me a $35 fee even though the phone was under warranty...calling CS today to attempt to get that waived.

Cool! Which H-boot is the new one?

Curious what their reasoning behind the 35 dollar charge is, hope you can get it taken care of. If you do, please tell us how you did! :p

nice!!!!!! congrats on the new phone!!!!!

I had to pay $35 when I had my phone replaced. Sprint said it was because it was under warranty, but not insured.

Exactly, they also force you to get INS at the store, you have to then call CS to cancel it.

As for the phone, my "new" one was a refurb that as soon as I got home I checked the NFC chip...which was of course fried. So I returned that phone, and got a new new one. Which I think is new vs. refurb but I'm not sure. The "old" new one had Hboot 1.12 while the "new" new one has 1.19 unfortunately.

how did you go about checking the chip? I have never used mine for anything, don't know it's status.

Logging into Goggle Wallet.

I don't think it is an issue in the newer phones or with the newer Google Wallet, but in older versions if you wiped/factory reset the phone without clearing the Wallet settings it would brick the NFC chip. Since the phone was "older" with H boot 1.12 I wanted to make sure it hadn't been bricked. I assume they just went in and wiped phone without clearing google wallet prior to the refurb.

I never set up the wallet to begin with so mine should be good if I ever want it to work for some reason.
