i originally purchased the Captivate the day it came out. I rooted it no problem by downloading the update file in opera mini, then renaming it,etc..I got rid of the phone for a while and just purchased a new one today.. i tried to root using the same method but it will not work.. does it have anything to do with the fact that the software is 2.1update1 and not the original 2.1??? When i rebbot im not getting the screen where you select superuser permission.. someone please help
If you simply reboot you won't get that screen. You have to reboot into recovery mode by holding down both Volume buttons and the power button at the same time, and then releasing the power button when you see the startup screen. Once here, select reinstall packages and reboot.
Exact same situation here.
I've got 2.1 update1
Holding down both volume up and down, while loading, just boots the phone as normal.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Let go right as you see the AT&T screen.
1. Hold Up & Down volume button and Power button together
2. Once you see AT&T screen, let go all buttons!
3. And wah'la recovery screen should pop up.
I did the entire root process straight from my phone! I originally tried to download the update.zip file with the default browser. It said "this content type is not supported"! WTF? Who makes a browser that can't download zip files?
I used Skyfire to download the zip file, then renamed it and put it in the root with file manager. Performed the steps and worked like a champ! I'm running Titanium backup now to get a good backup before I get rid of these AT&Greed apps!![]()
Look around for a one-click root utility, I think it's over at xda-developers forum in the Captivate.
Yup, this is what I used, very simple.
So what's the latest "root" version out there...I'm confused.Yup, this is what I used, very simple.
I did...I read the whole thing but just now after your slap in the face clicked on the link - " 1. Download and install "RyanZA's OCLF 2.0" from the Marketplace." It makes sense now...It looks like an updated version.Did you follow the link to the Captivate FAQ? It's spelled out pretty clearly in there. It's Ryan's One Click Lag Fix, but you only use the Root part of the program. Simple, even I could do it.
This looks like the only difference.Build number Eclair.UCJH7
If I root my Samsung Captivate can I still update to Froyo when it's releases in the U.S?
