Captivate vs Iphone 4

I found that my Fascinate was good (about 30% or so at the end of the day; 14 hours or so of use) but got better after about the 5th charging cycle. Not dramatically better, but the same use and seeing the percentage higher at the end about 40 and a percent or three over that now.
My kid's iPhone lasts about the same, but with heavier usage. He's had it for three weeks now and says the battery is, like mine, improving.

I must say I'm as eager as anyone to grab Froyo 2.2.
That said, I decided to dedicate some effort to getting the most out of 2.1. After about a week or two of paying attention to all the little things, I'm quite pleased with the results. Now it runs smooth, consistent, stable and trouble free. Even the update which I was lucky enough to have pushed to me the first day it was out, has increased it's responsiveness by a noticeable amount. For a relatively young OS it's doing everything I want it to.

The Captivate has a GPS Fix(Unofficial), it works on mines. I get a fix in about 5-10 seconds consistently.... And it's a good decision to stay with the Captivate.....myself and a lot of cell phone reviewers actually think the Fascinate is the worse of the 4 Galaxy S phones.....Bing and it's plain form factor.....

I had T-mobile, but switched to AT&T. IT seems the more they advance their Data, the worse the call quality gets. Before 3G I had no problems at att. 3G cam and I lost 1/3 my bars. HSPA+ now, and can no longer get a signal in my house. Sure, HSPA+ is currently the fastest, but does no good if signal is weaker.
Also, i live in oklahoma city and went to new mexico during the summer. Happened to have at least one person with each of the big 4 on the trip. Me, using t-mobile, went into roaming about 15 miles west of OKC, Lost all service 1/2 way through Tx panhandle, and got really spotty service in Santa Fe. Version, which sucks in okc, was more or less dead the whole trip. Sprint was good in OK but dead every where else. AT&T was strong all the way.

Where is everyone getting that promise at? Samsung UK gave a sept timeline, but US said by End of year.
I like both Android and iOS. I went with the iPhone 4 because it had the least amount of problems for me and worked for me.
I still think Android feels like a beta, and that Gingerbread will be it's first REAL release.
However, I will likely be going to Windows Phone 7 next year. Seems like a perfect mesh of what I love about Android and iOS.

I'm not going to knock the Iphone, it's a quality product.
I will say however that I'm completely and totally satisfied with my decision to purchase a Captivate instead of an Iphone and I have even "wowed" my Iphone friends with some of the Captivates features.
Again, both are quality products, it's just a matter of how much control do you wish to have over your device.

One thing a lot of people miss I think is CDMA vs. GSM with smartphones. CDMA tech is with Verizon, and Sprint and GSM is with T-Mobile and AT&T. With a GSM phone you can either roam in nearly all countries, or get a local sim card if you get your phone unlocked. But with a CDMA phone except for some hybrid CDMA/GSM Blackberries, your options are pretty much North America and that's it. Otherwise a phone like Verizon Droid or Samsung Fascinate will just work with wifi, with zero phone ability.
Not sure why AT&T and T-Mobile don't advertise that fact because I think it's a biggy for people who like to travel. A smartphone... (provided you are very careful about data use and/or get a local sim) can be very very nice to travel with.

GSM SIM cards aren't only convenient for travelers. It's also very useful as it allows you to keep spare phones that you can quickly switch to in the event that you damage your primary phone. Or if you want to test out another phone. It's not necessary to get your carrier involved... just move the SIM card over.

Yep, with a SIM adapter I was able to move back and forth between my Captivate and iPhone 4, a hell of a lot easier than calling VZ every time I want to switch phones.

I go to grad school in New Mexico, and ALL of the big 4 have extremely spotty service unless you are along a highway- then you are golden. I am about 60 miles south of I-40, below a little town called Clovis, and AT&T swears they don't serve there, but I have mediocre bars on EDGE data service, full bars in town. In fact, AT&T says they only serve Albuquerque and Santa Fe, but I haven't noticed any dead spots yet, except south along 70 (on both sides of Roswell) and between Roswell and Carlsbad... It is roaming I guess, but I haven't been charged for it yet...

My question is not being critical, but rather curious.
What about Windows Phone 7 has you so convinced already?
I've followed the project very closely, as I'm a Multi-Platformist that enjoys all types of phones. Yet I haven't read enough solid information to form an opinion one way or the other.

i have the same problems you have. with gps not locking, phone shutting off on its own, freezing. and i exchanged it two times and still have the same problem. i just updated it with the new update at&t sent. and the gps still sucks ( i run everyday and the gps is pointless because it doesnt lock. i myself miss my iphone and wish i got it instead of this phone. lol but i dont want to pay full price for the iphone so i am stuck....
I gave up my iphone for the Captivate and don't regret it at all! I dont have any problems with it except the att&t cant connect to update server message when i try to manually check for updates. I really think this is a better phone than the Iphone! When i show my iphone friends avatar on it there jaws drop! I would give samsung some time to update it and hopefully froyo will solve some problems people are having! But for me my captivate has never locked up or lagged but My iphone 3gs did lock up now and then. I'll never go back to the Iphone!

I"ve dealt with a bit of technology trouble that has put me with a new samsung captivate and an itouch that is 2 1/2 years old, has a glitch where it will press the bottom left and bottom right corners of the screen, and that as of 2 days ago cannot connect to wifi. i am currently trying to update my itouch, but if it doesnt update, i have some decisions to make. Since i am still in the 30 day trial period, i could theoretically return my samsung captivate for an iphone 4, which would compensate for my itouch being glitchy. the two phones are priced the same. i worry about the reception issues i've heard about regarding the iphone, but i love the apps on apple devices and would love the idea of using them anytime with 3g connection. or i can keep my samsung captivate and pay and extra 230 bucks to get the new itouch. i do have enough money, but price is still a factor. this is a good choice because i get to keep the captivate, which i love, and still have access to the many apps on the itouch. Obviously, the only negative here is the substantial cost. i guess i could also just keep my old itouch, but i've dealt with the screen glitch for a year and it is not too useful without internet connection.
same here, iphone 4 kept having reception issues and proxy sensor issues , even after 6 exchanges apple or at&t refused to do anything about it , so i totally booted the iphone aside for this captivate and i must say im happy with it , was never an android guy till now

Yeah i am probably heading over to Windows 7 when their devices come out(hopefully next month)
I still have my Captivate(it WAS locked away....i was going to sell it but that Super Amoled makes it so hard...even with all the problems)
I was using an HD 2 unlocked from tmobile and despite it being windows mobile, i actually fell in love with it...
and sadly the battery is like completely dead or whatever....
so i am back to using the captivate, unfortunately
But yeah windows 7 appears to be pretty cool from the videos and it's something new(which is what i love and why i always get the latest and greatest phone that comes out)
I had the kin phones on verizon and while the phone sucked...the software/concept was great and i enjoyed it!

It is funny because i reallly didn't compare about smartphones really until the Droids came out last november
The beginning of 2009, i had an Lg dare and now i am on a captivate...lol i've come a long way
