long story short, I ordered a new 2012 mustang GT convertable, but the package i want isnt on lot and is back ordered so the dealer said instead of an 8 week wait its going to be more like 12 weeks, and if interested I can refund the deposit i put down.

so now im back on the market. Do i choose another mustang thats more readily available (id have to remove the brembo package which includes upgraded rims/wheels, suspension,brakes,and sway bars) or should I get something more practical? im also considering a fully loaded nissan Juke (love the styling) or a WRX limited edition. they all have their pros and cons but I cant decide :(
 
Is waiting the 12 weeks not an option for you? Do you have to have something sooner? It seems to me that you had already decided on the Mustang, and if thats what you really want, thats what you should get imo.

I'd agree with cds. And believe me, I am not into waiting for much BUT some things - like the car you've apparently put a lot of thought into - are worth the wait.
 
the 12 weeks is doable but i live in boston and I dont wanna lose the entire summer :( thats really the only thing keeping me from waiting.
 
Maybe that is a red light? You don't want a Mustang in the cold weather.. hmm. Maybe get something with 4 wheel or front wheel drive.

I have a rear wheel drive sport car and it is really hard to drive in the winter even with good tires. Something to think about.

I want to eventually move back to Colorado and I grimace at the thought of bringing my rear wheel drive car there.
 
Honestly its an expensive, important purchase, and I really think you should get what you're going to be happy with long term. The only thing about getting another car is you may or may not like it down the road and wish you would have stuck with the Mustang. However, if you're certain you'll be happy with one of the other cars on your list, then perhaps it could be worth a look.

Bottom line, make sure you think about what you're gonna be happiest with long term... cuz while it might suck that you don't have the car for this summer, its gonna suck more spending thousands on a car that you're gonna regret buying down the line.
 
makes much more sense now. And I'd def go with something that can be somewhat practical in the winter. Unless you have a 'winter vehicle' - then by all means go for the mustang you can get OR something similar.
 
I ordered an Infiniti G35 to my taste and waited a solid 6 weeks for it. It was torture. What you don't want to happen is this: you go down and buy the awesome WRX, you roll off the lot feeling like a million bucks, you pull up at a red light and see a Mustang and think "that's the car I wanted..."

Personally, I don't care for American cars, I'd get the WRX, or better yet a G37.:D

EDIT: have you tried a good auto broker. They can usually search dealers all over the country and find your car and have it shipped, all while meeting or beating dealer prices.
 
I always wanted a Mustang convert, so finally, like you, I order done to my exact specs. Bright blue with a white top. It was a very hard 8 weeks waiting, but the car eventually came in. It was great! Except, I rarely used it with top down, as there is just too much sun and heat here in AZ. One year later, traded it in. Big $ loss....oh well, I got to drive one of my dream cars for a year!
 
Hmm.... shouldn't you get a car that's more suited for the winter time? My car was basically immobile during the winter time in IN because I bought it in SoCal not knowing that I was going to go to IN to study.

Also... I waited 5 1/2 months for my car to arrive from Japan! :p
 
How about getting a Stang without the Brembo package, then taking it to an aftermarket shop, to get some upgrades?
 
Cars, Property and women are all worth waiting for to get the one you want. If you settle for something else, you'll regret it.

While you are waiting for delivery couldn't the dealer give you a short term lease on something similarly sexy so you don't miss out on the summer cruising around Hyannis Port with the top down?

That's a very good idea (bolded) that I wasn't thinking about. They're alot more likely to do something like that for you considering you're buying a car from them.
 
i would have never thought of that a short lease may be a good idea.

my biggest issue is that the car is simply a purchase because I can. my current car runs fine no issues and is still low mileage. I have kinda weighed the pros and cons of them all and I keep getting stuck in a rock paper scissors issue where they all win and lose to each other evenly. I'll probably still end up getting the mustang since im used to driving overpowered RWD in the winter (drove a heavily modded/supercharged grand marquis for 2 years), but some of this extra advice was very helpful
 
Well good to hear you have experience with RWD in the snow. I haaaaaaaaaate it.

But I love her in the summer :)
 
Well I have a new '11 WRX and love it but man are those three cars three completely different beasts! If you carefully considered all 3 and decided on the Mustang, I say stick with it. I don't know how the Mustangs traction control is but I lasted 2 winters in Colorado with my RWD BMW and never missed a day of work.

I wouldn't worry about missing summer unless you plan on selling or trading this in by next summer lol. You have plenty of summers to go! Plus you never know if it comes in sooner than 12 weeks.

Honestly, the Juke looks fun but it's not going to give you the speed or performance of either the mustang OR the WRX and it's FWD which IMO is not as fun as RWD in dry or AWD in snow.

Based on your preference for a GT mustang, I think, performance wise, you won't be happy with anything less than the mustang or WRX. HOWEVER, my last car (the bmw) was a convertible and I do miss it on nice days with my WRX. Based on the fact that you wanted a convertible mustang, even though I am not a fan of mustangs to begin with, I really think you should go back there and re-order it. Don't settle for something you are not super crazy about because of an extra 4 weeks or a single missed summer. You will be happy next summer when you aren't calculating your losses on selling an 8 month old car!

I'm not saying you can't drive RWD in the winter. I never missed a day of work either. But it is definitely a lot harder to drive in the snow and ice and way more dangerous.
 
WOW American Muscle cars are cool, here in the uk the best cars are probably german. but i do think the Jaguar XF looks beastly still have u considered or if u can wait a Range Rover Evoque or a Mercedes CLC
 
alright so i ended up getting a WRX, the mustangs were too long of a wait, and who knows what will happen 5 years from now, the WRX is the smarter choice since its all wheel drive and 4 door. plus i can always throw a bigger turbo and front mounted intercooler on it :P hopefully ill be picking the car up friday after i get out of the hospital!
