Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

Nice!!! That is my plan exactly, so it's good to see that the disc sticks to the case. To date I haven't seen a better looking mounting system for this phone.

Agreed... the phone mounting disk barely adds to the case, so the phone still stays pocketable. It only remains to be seen how durable the mount stays. I do recommend supporting the M2 when you mount the phone, especially if the M2 is extended away from your dash as in my pictured mount.

Thanks Kilofox, those pictures reassure me. I like how small the button appears to be. Just curious as to how well it will stick to my bodyglove case.

What are you guys using to answer the phone when you are using GPS? I don't have BT radio and I hate ear pieces.

Alas, the M2 from Soundgate does NOT stick well at all to the Bodyglove case. It fell off almost immediately. I then tried to use Gorilla glue and that failed as well. I really like the M2 otherwise, so I am going to return my case and get the one that kilofox uses.

Kilofox, everything still adhering well for you?

Tried mine today. I can report the discs DO NOT stick to the battery cover either. Very dissapointed in the discs that attach on the phone. Tried both discs and they literally fell off on first use.

That looks pretty awesome.

It looks like the x-way version is designed so that you can manipulate various parts of your phone without disengaging it from the magnet piece right?

How secure is this for you? Has your iphone ever become dislodged during spirited driving or while you were pressing on any part of the screen??

This looks like the perfect solution for what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Yeah, it's designed so you can rotate the phone into portrait or landscape mode and still retain full functionality. There is a very small metal disk that attached to the back of the phone/case (using 3M stick tape) that holds onto the magnet. The X part of the holder actually act as a bit of a brace you you can press the ends of the phone without it wobbling all over.

According to the website, it will hold up to 5G's of cornering. I've yet to have the phone come dislodged while driving, and I tend to take corners as fast and sideways as I can. Nowhere near 5G's but maybe close to 1G on street tires. I mean even an F1 car will only see 2.5-3G's cornering so really the phone isn't going anywhere.

Hi murdoc,

Thanks for the reply. I saw the promotional video for it and one youtube video. According to the youtube video, the person mentioned how strong the magnetic connection was which is great.

Ideally, I would like to get the regular EGO or GEO line (can't tell what the difference is between them besides color and price) if possible. I would go with the Xway but the big rubber X pieces kind of detract from the overall aesthetics of things. So if magnets themselves hold the edges (like the home, back, and menu buttons) securely when I need press them, then I'll go with EGO or GEO instead. I know you have the Xway, but do you think the EGO or GEO will suffice?

I wish there were more reviews on youtube or someplace locally where I can check it out.

ps: Do you mind if I ask what car you drive? I'd like to take a look at your dash to see if it's similar to mine. The dash and vents on my Lexus GS slopes back towards the front of the car so it's not completely vertical. I'm worried once the unit is attached, that the phone will sit squarely facing me but will be angled upwards.

Thanks again.

Just did some more looking on the Tertrax site and I think the XWAY is the way to go. The weight capacity for the XWAY is 300 grams. The weight capacity for all of the others is 150 grams. The Incredible is 130 grams. So, the smaller mounts could hold it, but it's getting close to capacity. Plus, the XWAY is still really small.

Still working for me on the VZW silicone case.

I highly recommend Proclip. I have been using since my BB8830 days.

ProClip is great, but you know to buy the mount for your car and the holster, it costs like $80! For a car mount! I guess if you have money to burn then that's a good option, but for most average joes, that's simply way too much to spend on a mount. And they NEVER have discount codes/sales!

Plus, they almost never design mounts to hold phones in cases - your phone always has to be naked.

You could always get a full body kit (or if you have an extra screen protector), cut out a small circle to match that of the disk, apply the cut out to the phone and let it cure. Then apply the disk. I haven't tried it, but in theory it should work.

I have the black case (like this):

and am planning on mounting the M2 disk onto it, but want to do a flush mount. Thinking of cutting a hole in the case (with a hole saw) then flush mounting the disk into the hole and using an epoxy to secure it. Anyone know if this would work?

Good idea. It just so happens I do have an extra screen protector. Will give this a shot and report back

Looks to me like if you make the disk flush with the case, you won't be able to mount it. You might be able to do it with a slightly larger hole that is more of a slot shape (elongated hole). But since I don't have one and don't know exactly how the mount works, I'm not positive.

I would like to know the answer to these questions as well. Those things look amazing! I bet the EGO or GEO would probably be secure enough. Pretty ingenious design!

Another question - do they all come with the adhesive discs to attach to the phone, or do you have to buy those separately? Looks like when I clicked on the EGO, it says "number of pieces in package - 1"...?

Yeah, I saw that on the site, but the Rocketfish one is tiny. So small that it literally sits flush at the top of the lighter socket. For my wife's car this is important as the genius designers put the socket under the arm rest pointing upwards. You have less than 2 inches of clearance. For my car it's important because I don't want a giant charging port sticking out. :D

ecredible: I don't believe that will work as the disc needs to be raised to fit into the mount.

I just bought the M2, should be here tomorrow. However I am loving the Tetrax. Is anyone worried about when you have the heat on it will screw up the phone? That worries me. Will be a good thing in summer, but here in NW Indiana, I run the heat allot.

I don't think the heat should affect it that much. Plus, usually the heat comes out the bottom vents, not the top ones, so you should be just fine ;)

Now, which one of the Tetrax to choose...that is the question...

Here's an unboxing and setting up video from a user. He's kind of a tool, but the device looks pretty awesome! BTW, he tests it using an IPhone and the XWAY one.

Yeah, no...

No way anything is blocking my A/C vents! We need all the air we can get in S. Florida! Plus a couple of other things. The device doesn't face the driver, it faces the rear seat and also, when he was testing the grip it looked like he was testing by pulling straight out where the magnet will have its strongest attraction. Bumping over roads and speed bumps will likely send your phone sliding onto the floor boards every few miles if your streets are anything like they are here.
