Car USB adapter question

My DNA always say "Slow charging. Use original charger" when I plug it into my car USB adapter. I guess I need a new more powerful car USB adapter?

Will this one do the job? Anyone?

That is probably driven more by the output of your charger than the cable itself. Get yourself a charger that has 2A output and you should be fine.

I don't understand - ? I plug my current USB adapter (not the one pictured with the link) into my car cigarette lighter, then I plug in my USB cord to that and to my DNA. So I guess in this scenario my cigarette lighter is my "charger"?

The adapter you plug into the lighter is probably the issue... It probably has a low output, maybe 0.5 amps. If you get a new adapter that has a higher output, like 2 amps, your problem should go away. If you look closely at the adapter it should say somewhere on it what the output is. The actual usb cable you plug into the adapter shouldn't matter.

Great! That's what I was thinking but I wanted confirmation before ordering. The one linked above does indeed have 2A output, so it should work. Thank you!

Why is 2A output preferred when the HTC wall charger that came with the phone is a 1A unit? I understand if you only have a 500ma car charger, but if the original wall charger is 1A why would having a 1A car charger matter?

I'm kinda having the same problem with mine but on a different device. when I plug my phone into my laptop while the screen is on it chargers fine. But if I plug it in with it's closed but still sleeping I get the slow charge warning. Never happened with my S3,note2, nokia lumia822, or any other phone I have had hooked to my laptop. and yes it is the original usb cord that came with my DNA? any ideas? thanks

The phone limits the amount of amperage needed.
So the charger's ability of amperage could be bigger than the phone's needing, but should not less.

But there is another important thing to know about charging:
Most phone producers follows the recommendation of USB standards for USB chargers ... they jump the data pins of their modified chargers for to bring the phone in 'AC charging' mode, means rapid charging with high amperage.

With generic chargers this modificaton with jumpered pins is rare feature to find.

Ok I am now thoroughly confused  haha.

I did order that car adapter linked above, so as soon as I get it I will try it out and let y'all know if it resolves the problem. Stay tuned

At home I use two chargers, I keep my oem charger in one room and an aftermarket Duracell bded)charger in my bedroom. Never have gotten any sort of message. At work I have a generic usb cord connected to my pc and the only message I get while charging there is usb debugging connected. What rate does it charge at when connected to a pc usb port?

The phone tells about its charging state (Settings, Power, Battery, Battery status ... :)

"Charging (AC)"
It means rapid charging with high current up to 1000mA (1A) amperage.

"Charging (USB)"
is showing when the phone is charging e.g. on a PC's USB plug.
It means slow charging with trickle current with up to 500mA amperage.

I only get this sub-optimal charging notice when using my cheap dual USB car adapter. I've tried it with 4 different USB cables, including the OEM one, and I still get it. Conversely I never get it using those same cables with the wall adapter or my external battery pack. So I"m fairly certain it's the cheap car adapter that is the culprit. As soon as I get the new one I will try it and let y'all know if that resolves the issue.

I do not get the suboptimal charging notice when plugged into my laptop's USB connection.

If Settings, Power, Battery, Battery status shows "Charging (USB)" then the charging is slow ... even if you won't get this notice about slow charging :)
I guess, the reason for not showing the notice may be that the phone senses the data ability of the laptop's USB connection (USB enumeration).

So I received the car USB adapter linked above and tried it -- no dice. Still getting "slow charging" notice. I never get that when plugged into laptop or wall, regardless of which USB cable I use. So I can only assume it is low power through the car lighter - ?? And nothing can be done about it - ??

It's not the car lighter ... your new car charger hasn't jumped data pins (look at my first post in this thread).

Look for a HTC car charger C200, or if you need a car charger with two USB outputs look for the HTC car charger C300. These two will charge your phone properly :)

Edit: If you like DIY you'd try to mod your new "GTMax" car charger ... Cheap and simple USB car fast-charger mod

Good call, for the one on Amazon there were more than a few reviewers stating that it was a knock-off. I ordered one from the site/link you provided. Will report back after I receive it and try it out.

Thanks!
