I really liked my B&N Industriell case, but after a couple of weeks I can tell in certain lights that the front cover is beginning to rub smooth spots on the front fascia of my NC. :( I stuck some old EZGrip dots onto the corners of the NC to keep the inside of the front flap from touching - it's not too unsightly, but now I'm worried that the EZGrips might exude plasticizers over time and damage the NC (Why yes, I AM obsessive about keeping my devices pristine, how did you guess? :D) So I'm on the lookout for a new case that will provide better protection. The B&N book-style cases I've seen all seem to have a clamp system that leaves the front of the device exposed so the cover can rub there, and even the ones with a clasp to keep the cover closed seem to allow quite a bit of play. Has anyone else noticed a problem like this?

The other option would be a gel/Trident/Otterbox type case, but I'm a bit concerned about lugging it in the laptop sleeve compartment of my backpack without more substantial screen protection. I also worry about possible scratching of the shiny black strip where the N button is. I've never seen that mentioned as a problem though - how susceptible is that area to damage?

Edited to add: I think I might have found a solution - looks like what I need is a vinyl skin, at least on the front of the device. They even seem to come with a piece to cover the shiny black part. Looks like they're thin enough to not interfere with using a cover.

I'm quite fond of my B&N Canvas Writer's Cover, with the 3-point clip system. The left cover has several pockets that I keep SDs and a screen wipe in, and I devised a simple stand that slips between the Nook and right cover to hold it in either landscape or portrait orientations.

I've been using it for several weeks, and the previous owner kept it in a similar B&N book-style cover. I don't have any wear marks on the device's bezel or screen. I recently switched to the B&N anti-glare screen protector which I worry may wear smooth from excess friction with the inside, but I think I'm being paranoid. I don't have any protection on that shiny black strip, and it receives heavy use as evidenced by fingerprints, but it always cleans up nicely, and has no swirls on it from wiping.

I clean the device and the cover, inside and out, every other day. I use Fantastic on the cover, and only a very lightly water-dampened paper towel on the device itself, followed by a quick buff with the screen wipe to get any residue off of the anti-glare cover.

That's a great looking cover! I wish mine had a pocket for a cleaning cloth. Good to hear that the shiny strip is durable, too.

I notice that while the inside of the front cover on mine is sueded material, it's a synthetic of some sort and has a slightly harsh texture. Anyway, there's a DecalGirl skin on its way to me (black woodgrain; I change wallpapers fairly often and wanted something subtle).

Mine has faux suede, too (the grey material inside) although it seems very soft. The main material is the white plastic/vinyl-coated canvas which has a nice smooth texture. My biggest problem has been oils (from hands) transferring from the inside cover to the screen. It hasn't been an issue since my frequent cleaning, however.

It arrived today but I may return it. :( Very unnatural looking, and lots of little pits and blemishes that show up badly with the shiny finish and lack of strong pattern. I have a feeling it'll make the device look cheap. Haven't yet decided whether to exchange for something else.

Dave, I ended up with a textured faux carbon fiber skin from Skinit's 30% off sale on the Fourth - here's a pic. Application was a bit of a pain (the thin pieces on the front are very stretchy, and I spent a nerveracking half-hour or so chasing it round and round the bezel trying to make it all fit in), but I'm fairly satisfied with the result.
