Case recommendations for mild arthritic

gw4frx

Newbie
I've been a happy Desire owner for a while now and am thinking about getting one for my wife. Unfortunately she has a touch of arthritis in her hands and can't grip very well. She also occasionally drops things as a result, which obviously wouldn't be good news.

I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations for a case that offers exceedingly good protection whilst leaving the handset easy to use.

Many thanks in advance.

Gel cases are all right, and cheap enough that you can try one without feeling like you've wasted too much if it doesn't work out. The surface on them is smooth/glossy though, and I found mine to be as slippery as the bare phone if my hands were very dry (which is often the case in winter).

I would give the Case-Mate Torque a try. Spendier, sure, but fairly bulletproof. Or at least drop-proof. I received a Barely There case last week from them and they included a 20% off coupon, code CM12-AR20 -- you're welcome to use it if it's not somehow tied to my account.

Edit: that coupon might only work for 'custom' cases, now that I look at the card again.

wrong section as i have answered this type of question in the accessories section however

I have this case
Case-Mate HTC Desire Tough Case - Black/Black - Mobiles at Play.com (UK)
it makes it a little thicker (about the same size as the SE X10) but its solid durable with hard back and rubber face surround.
as you can see the hard case part is indented for extra grip.
its a good price for the quality which is superb

alternatively you can get the highly acclaimed otterbox but imo they are about the same and the otterbox has less grip

+1 for the CaseMate Tough Case - good protection and much grippier than stock.

is it easily removable as i use google maps in car with brodit holder?
am thinking of caemate or tpc520 any thoughts?

takes not much time to remove it
peal off outer hard plastic shell then take it out of rubber sleave
it comes in two parts, honestly the best case ive owned for any phone

I'd also put in a vote for the Otterbox Commuter Series case. It comes in two parts (the manufacturer counts it as 3 incl. the screen protector). I've had mine a few months now and it has taken a fair few knocks and drops without any perceptible damage to the phone.

hi gw4frx

+1 for the CaseMate Tough Case!

I have my desire for 4 days and also bought the tough case. Mainly because I dropped my old nokia also a few times. The nokia was in stainless steel and could manage a drop but I was terrified for dropping the desire.. So I have the case since 4 days (no long time use experience) but, I really like the case. It fits your hand very well, has a nice finish (in and out!) and you can keep using the desire without having to take it out of a pouch every time. It also has a screen protector and with the extra edge on the side you can easily put it down without having to worry about scratches on the screen or camera.

+1 for otterbox there are none tougher and it has a shock absorbing rubber interior so that no drop from any height will hurt the phone, I have one on both of my phone's and it was well worth the price!!!

Many thanks for all the replies so far. I'm watching with great interest but it sounds as though there's a solution, which is wonderful.

I have the CaseMate ToughCase and it is superb. The Otterbox above looks like a very similar construction so you probably can't go wrong with either.

Although as Rasta says the ToughCase is very grippy.

I wouldn't recommend the cheaper 'gel cases'. Nothing wrong with them as such but the level of protection doesn't come close to these two layered cases.

I have the Otterbox Commuter Series case. I work at a 9 story tall hospital and i can't tell you how many times i'm running down the stairs and the phone falls out of my shirt hands/pocket and tumbles down a few flights of stairs lol. Phone still works awesome too. Very protective.
