Once all non rooted users have gotten the market update I will move this to the All Things Root sub-forum. Some will be tempted to download from another source until they get the proper update. I'll leave this here for now until I'm positive the update has made it to all non rooted user's.

Owners of non-rooted phones would have no reason to download the Market/Play APK, no?

If their Optimus hasn't updated to Google Play they might give it a try.

Sounds a little far-fetched to me. Is Play supposed to have any benefits over Market that might cause users to want to go out of their ways to find it in unusual places? And wouldn

I wish I could UNinstall Play....I mean I can, but it keeps coming back. Stupid space hog.

^Word. I was uninstalling the updates all the time when it was still the market, but it was such a pain in the butt that I finally gave up. And could they have come up with a stupider name?

Thlatest version of Titanuim Backup Pro added "Disable Market app Auto Updater". I haven't tried it. The same thing can be achived by freezing marketupdater.apk. These solutions only work for rooted users, so if you haven't rooted you are pretty much stuck with whatever Google throws at you.
