Root [CDMA] 2.89

DragonSlayer95

Resident Air Bender
I didn't see a thread on this, but when I'm ok searching for roms to download and flash, I see "2.89" in the header with the Rom name. I don't have problems flashing these roms. Although embarrassed to say I've never bothered to ask if it was baseband or what?

Just curious is all. :)

Hey dragon! It is the build number. If you go into about phone software information etc you will see it there. I'm on 2.17. I don't know that I could really explain that in much more detail. I've seen it called so many things. Some call it 2.89 build some say firmware.

Oh okay thanks!

For some reason I figure it meant that you needed to be on that baseband or something to that effect to be able to flash that rom.

Thought maybe I beat yet another curve with my 1.5 s-on :p

I think you have. I personally have to flash the 2.89 build to flash an ics rom! Actually some of them have worked with 2.17 but they we're very buggy until I flashed 2.89 build. It's all good though. It takes about 1 minute to switch between the builds.

I think baseband is the radio!

Hmm I think I might nand back rom I was using before I flashed earlier as it told me build number rather than rom name, has me curious.

Nonetheless never had to flash anything extra etc for any ics or jb roms :p

Could have sworn though I saw somewhere a while back on xda referring that you need to do something extra to flash a 2.89 rom if you had the dreaded 1.5 with s on.

It's probably just flashing the build and radios etc. It's pretty easy, just put a zip on your sd reboot into bootloader and say yes to the update. Takes about a minute. It's not a bad idea to do before flashing an ics or jb rom. It's as simple as flashing the 2.17 build right back if you want to!

Make sure I'm understanding correctly. It's a safer bet to flash before loading any ics roms to make it a less painful flash, possibly with running into boot loops and such?

Yep! But like you've always said, you are one of the lucky few. It apparently hasn't affected you but I can't usually flash an ics without bootloops unless I update the other stuff first. Also just fyi, you can update your bootloader in this process to 1.58 but don't have to. I actually made my own gb build zip by dissecting the ruu and taking all the files needed to just update to the gb base and radios. I have one version with hboot 1.5 and one without. Same for ics. I have one version with hboot 1.58 included and one without. You certainly don't have to change your hboot to update to the ics base.

Also another fyi, it's possible to just flash the 1.4 hboot as well. This way if you ever had to re root you could use the revolutionary method ;) For example if you gave yourself the 1.4 hboot and unrooted for repairs. You could easily re root with revolutionary and then just restore your backup!

I've considered downgrading to 1.4 so I could unroot to take it in for repairs due to my bad screen, but ultimately flashed on a stock rom and hid su along with my root apps.

But lucky me after doing that, local and corporate stores didn't have lcd/digitizer screens to repair me :/

Decided to flash back down to 2.3 today, amazing how different gb is after getting use to.ics for so long :p

Haha I bet! I have not even been able to stick with an ics rom for more than a half hour because I just don't want to get used to the change :p

Lol I've actually stuck with sosm maybe 2 months now. By far the best imo.

Aside from paranoid android though only because my faulty screen prevents me from using it to its full intents.

I actually liked both of those roms. Paranoid was the first aosp rom I tried and truely liked it. It was just soooo different and I wasn't ready for change!

It had that tablet feel (i assume? Never used tablet before) that's what caused me to fall in love with pa.
