4ext recovery allows some firmware and kernel updates via smart flash you should try it if your not prepared to s-off

As long as a nandroid was made and you recover before the bootloops shouldn't still be having them

From what I've read, tho haven't tried it, a lot had been fixed by insuring S-ON its set when you install 4ext. If you're S-ON, without setting 4ext as so, it can screw things up, bad.

I've also tried meanrom with 4ext version4. It did ask if I was s-on and if the device was an evo 3d. But even then I just get bootloops after I try to install any ics rom.

So u r saying we r supposed to nanadroid, then install rom with 4ext, and then restore the nandroid backup? I never restored. That's probably why I get bootloops then?

It's required to make a nandroid before you flash any rom, preferably with 4ext if your s on, makes life much much easier if you have any problems like say with boot loops or it can be a huge pain if you don't do a nandroid before hand, as many has said. Nandroid is a flashers best friend
