Root [CDMA] A leaked ROM for the EVO 3D appears on XDA

I don't think this is an accurate assumption that the phone will be out soon. Because i'm confident 3D will launch with 2.3.4 not 2.3.3.

But i genuinely hope you are right.

Certainly better than the continuation of no news whatsoever, even if only marginally.

To alcohol: I certainly hope it ships with 2.3.4 as well, but the demo versions shown at CTIA and (I'm pretty sure I read somewhere) at IO were 2.3.3.

Guys, since this is a leaked ROM, it's highly likely that it's not a final ROM thus would explain the 2.3.3 Android version.

PPS: The "All things Root" sub-forum should be renamed to something like ROMs and Root, since this really has nothing to do with rooting the phone and is solely related to software and pre-release speculation.

With this ROM, they can start hunting for exploits... And if they find one, hope that the hole is not plugged on the final ROM.

So essentially, while it doesn't guarantee a root at all, it certainly can be helpful for speeding up the process when actually released.

Unfortunately, unless HTC does a complete about face and ships with no signatures and an unlocked bootloader, this seems to be roughly as good as we can hope for.

Don't you need Root to Flash a Custom Rom? So the title covers All Things Root. Semantics I guess

The bootloader is signed, but not encrypted. My bet is a root if not on the release date, very soon after. I'm all set to start cooking!!

I am also optimistic that a root exploit will be found quickly, but we should all still be prepared for a long wait. There's never a guarantee that an exploit will be found. And from what I'm hearing, devs are getting sick of having to crack these locked/signed bootloaders for every single HTC phone, and HTC releases a lot of phones.

Sony and Samsung seem to be moving toward less secure (even unlocked) bootloaders. Hoping that HTC will also consider moving in the same direction.

Is it possible to take the system dump and run it as an emulated AVD with the Android SDK? It would be cool try running some of the apps.

AFAIK, the AVD can only emulate vanilla Android versions... Plus, hardware-specific apps (like those revolving around the 3D capabilities of the Evo 3D) won't run without a kernel built for the Evo 3D's hardware. The AVD simply knows nothing about the Evo 3D's hardware.

Any generic apps can probably be loaded onto a device of your choice as long as the base Android version matches...

Yeah, I figured you couldn't do much that required the 3D hardware, but I just wanted to try and run some apps to see if there was anything revealing in them. For instance, the blockbuster app. I remember seeing pictures of it saying "Available in 71 days." I wanted to confirm that and see if it changed (since I assume it just connects to some hidden webpage). I tried copying the .apk to an AVD running 2.3.3, but it never showed up.

I just want some confirmation on this device coming to the real world, ya know? :-p
