Root [CDMA] Concerns about rooting and hacking.

Lurker
I have tons of questions i guess lol... First i have an HTC Evo 3D with sprint. My connection sucks and my download speeds are slow. But my question is, can my phone be hacked by someone and all my info be in there hands? I have reason to believe someone I kinda know did so to get personal information from me without me knowing. A few times now I have lost ability to log into my yhoo mail for several hours. I installed avist on my phone but i cant use the firewall unless I'm rooted. I've read a bit about rooting and i kind of understand the concept, but i wouldn't do so without having alot more info. So can my phone be hacked? And if so, can it be prevented? Is there a firewall or protection out there that will protect me without rooting my phone? If I do root, thats the first thing i wanna do is secure you phone. But the question is, who do you trust? You have to giveup all access to your phone, to the app that your installing. I hope someone can enlighten me as to what I should do. I'm not totally dumb when itcome to computers, but I'm no programer ether. By any mean lol... Thanks in advance for your input :)

hello.

welcome to the forums.

since most of your concerns speak on rooting, i have moved your question to the rooting subforum for some top help and responses.

you also ask a couple of other questions concerning hacking and rooting, so I advise you to give a search of the forum. Anything is possible if someone has access to your handset and yes by installing a custom ROM you can install one that is not kosher, so take the advice here and read up on ROMs if you are concerned. Your only way to fight this is to educate yourself and to look for signs of a possible security breach on your phone.

First of all you have a better chance of getting hacked rooted then not rooted, with that being said, just because you can't login to Yahoo for a couple of hours not mean you got hacked, I would login to your Yahoo account from a PC, and change your password just in case, if you got hacked maybe your Yahoo account got hacked not your phone, start with that and report back

It sounds more like your Yahoo mail got hacked. Hacking phones is a much more difficult ordeal. And while a firewall would help, it wouldn't stop anyone who knew what they're doing.

If you're really worried about it a factory reset will cure any malware that may be on your phone.
