OK, so I'm getting ready to take the plunge and root/flash my 3VO. I've been trying to do my research (Thnx Jerofld), and once I think I got it, I read another thread that confuses me (OK, so it it's not hard to do
, but...) Anyway, the way I've read it, downgrading HBOOT to 1.4 used to be the way to go (I'm 1.5) to get S-OFF, but now there appears to be more than one method to get S-OFF without downgrading HBOOT. I'm also seeing on some threads that having S-ON doesn't necessarily mean there are the limitations there once was...
So, considering my 3VO is no longer under warranty (I got it first day
), should I downgrade HBOOT to 1.4 to get S-OFF, leave it as HBOOT 1.5, or is S-OFF not that big a deal anymore? Am I reading right that S-OFF is required for ICS ROMs?
I don't have as much time as I'd like to spend on it, but I don't mind doing whatever to get the best results (not worried about OC'ing, just better batt & features, smooth operation and, of course, ICS
). I just don't want to wind up permanently bricking it and having to go back using my Pre!!!
Thanks to all you folks for helping n00bs like me with rooting...
