Thanks to everyone who posted their experience here. I got the same exact problem and was so glad there was an answer. I waited on the phone after the error messages and was connected to CSR. They didn't even ask what I did, just some questions to verify who I am. 5 mins and my phone was fine and ready to send/receive.

same experience. sprint rep "Rene" fixed it in a jiffy!

I got this after activating my Evo 3D. No root involved (yet... muahaha). Maybe it's because I reported my Evo 4G stolen, activated an Evo 3D last week (it was defective), then activated another Evo 3D today.

I know I am late to party on reporting this, but here goes anyway. Back when I got S-OFF and rooted via Revolutionary, I too had the Error 16 problem. ;)

I was going to stay on the line and call Sprint, but ended up wanting to instead push forward with flashing a recovery. My handset froze up for some reason that I cannot recall and needed the battery to be pulled for a minute. This not only brought my Sprint HTC EVO 3D back to life, but it also fixed the Error 16 issue. I did not even have to call Sprint, but that is good to know if it ever happens again. :)

I'm on Boost Mobile and it's been a week since I rooted with Revolution. Everything was working well till this morning when I needed to make an important call. After getting the error 16 I was forwarded to a Sprint CSR who asked me for name, phone number, and model of phone and explained my phone had "fallen out of sync" with the network and that he was "making an adjustment" that should fix it. Then he told me to pull the battery for 30 seconds, reboot, and try a call. All is well again. If there is a next time, I'll just try the batt pull and hope that fixes it. Thanks for that info! [Edit - I should clarify that I found this thread through a websearch for "sprint error 16" and didn't notice this is an EVO 3D specific thread.]

If they admit it's something with their cell towers, there's nothing you can do about it, as they need to dispatch a tower repair crew to fix it. If you live in one of the areas that are on the first round of LTE upgrades, I would expect that you might be getting those errors for awhile, as I'm sure LTE is taking the priority.

If you call again, ask for an estimated time to repair.

For anyone having this error, do the following:

Call sprint or use the sprint chat

tell them you have a error 16 and you want the phone refreshed

let them do their thing and bam, fixed. ive done this 4 times 4 different phones.
