Ok so I got notified that there was an update for my software but when I try to install it it reboots to the green and black boot screen. Can someone help me?

are you rooted? if so do not accept the update. ota's usually will close any exploits that was used to gain root so you will most likely get unrooted. also it could boink your phone as well.

it actually might be different with the htc method. but this should always be a rule for any rooted device. all you would need to do is wait for the devs to come up with a rooted version of the update then just flash the rom to get updated.

See this is where i get a bit confused. I am not running a rom. All I did was root my phone through HTC so I could remove some of the bloatware and use wireless tether. No aftermarket rom has been installed

yes you are on a rom. it is just stock, but a rom non the less. you are just not on a custom rom is all.

if you want you can try this rom:[ROM] 12/30/11 - CleanROM 3.0 Preview 1 Now Available! - xda-developers. it is a very sweet stock rom that is up to date and is optimized to be very fast. plus it has carrier iq deleted as well as all of the bloatware removed. check it out.

Well yeah, thats is what I meant, stock rom. I will look into this now, thanks for the link. I need to look into some other Roms, been a little afraid to try aftermarket ones out.

well if you want something different try this rom out:[ROM]Nocturnal Xplod XE 01/02 OC Daemon, Bravia, Beats, SONY Xperia For the 3D! - xda-developers. it is a sense rom but it has the sony xperia launcher. it is way different then sense. it is what i'm currently running right now.

just make sure that you make a nandroid backup and that you wipe dalvik cache(found in advanced), cache, and data before flashing the rom.
