Hi!

<self serving praise> First, a huge thank you to everyone that's put in so much effort with the rooting of the HTC EVO 3D! Of course, this also applies to all the mods who seem to be able to answer almost any question! </self serving praise>

I am going to root my phone tomorrow and have been reading as much as I can. ( HTC Evo 3D Rooting Essentials [official thread] and The Beginner's Guide to Rooting ) I have HBOOT version version 1.5, and am going to root with SenselessROM 2.7 so I can tether to my tablet and/or laptop.

I am going to first back up contacts, text messages, and the entire contents of my SD card to my Win7 PC.

I guess I am just wondering how much time before I start the root, and when I am happy that I can use the phone again.... LOL Sort of like wedding night jitters..

Words of wisdom? Comments before one of our <self serving praise> WONDERFUL MODS </self serving praise> takes it upon themselves to merge this into anther thread, and it's lost in obscurity?

Thanks!

Honestly, the process goes by fairly quickly. It probably takes all of 10-15 mins. Don't worry too much. As long as you follow the directions, you'll be fine. If you need help ask, either on here or XDA. The XDA folks are a bit unforgiving so I would likely come here first.

For a first time rooter and the 1.5 Hboot, probably a bit longer than that. Just from inexperience of using recovery, fastboot, where to put files (like anything that you rename to PG86IMG.zip goes in the root of your SD card), etc etc.

But if you read the instructions 3 or 4 times before attempting and read as you do the steps, you should be fine. If you want to minimize the time you will be without your phone, install the Android SDK now. Download TWRP and skip CWM. I used to like CWM, but a lot of ROMs use ext4 mods that only flash in TWRP. Plus TWRP is more newbie friendly (imo). Download the ROM you're going to use now. Find out if the ROM is using a custom kernel. If it does, you'll have to flash the kernel separately or flash the whole ROM from Fastboot. Put the ROM in the correct folder on your computer. So on and so forth.

The way most newbies screw up (myself included when I first started tinkering) was that I didn't read and ran into a sorts of problems because my first few flashes were successful. Then I started doing weird stuff and soft bricked my phone until I figured out how to fix the problem and flash something that was good over it. So read up and read the instructions as you're doing it. It'll save you a lot of headaches.

Hi,

So far, by following the directions from {http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...-2-7-10-19-11-gb-2-3-4-cleaner-than-ever.html}

I was sent to [GUIDE] HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 + TWRP Recovery + Root + Flash Ur Ass Off! [9.11.11] - xda-developers Because I have hboot 1.5, and told to download:

Android SDK
HTC Sync 3.0.5551
Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

BUT, HTC tells me that I need newer version of these to unlock my bootloader...

Am I missing something obvious here  ? Is XDA just not up to date?

tnxs.

The versions that work with htc unlock should be on the htc development site. HTC sync and jdk should be the only ones where updates matter

o.k. I'm rooted with cleanROM_2.7.zip.....

BUT, I have lost wi-fi and 4G as explained....

So, what boot.img do I want to reflash the phone to restore wifi and 4G? Is it the same one that was in cleanROM_2.7.zip, or some other?

Thanks again!!!

o.k. I see how to clear the dalvik cache, but not sure what to do to "reflash rom wiping cache".

oops... Never mind... I got it! Thanks!
