Root [CDMA] obsessive nandroid back ups?

Am I the only one that feels all these instructions to "nandroid first" for everything you do a little too much? I only have one nandroid and that's the very first nandroid I did once i obtained root. i have also saved this file on my computer. If anything ever goes wrong I figured why not just go back to a fresh start? I guess my question is....is it really practical to make a nandroid every time you attempt to flash something?

To pick up any app updates, configuration or data changes you've accumulated over time - yes, it's the way to go.

I keep my very first nandroid in a couple of safe places. I don't always nandroid when putting on a new ROM, but I do if what I have is stable and something I really like. That way, if I FUBAR my phone, I can go back to a warm, safe place. I keep 3 or 4 intermittent nandroids backed up on my desktop in case I want to go back, but on my phone, I only keep the one safe, known working nandroid.

It's a $500 phone. Nandroids are cheap insurance.

Data can be corrupted in so many ways. What happens if you need your sole backup and it doesn't work?

I make backups everytime I do a major change simply so that if the change isn't what i wanted or has a problem I can just roll back. I probably have 30 backups from my 4g saved on my computer from the 6 months I had it. Like I said, it's cheap insurance. If you flash enough sooner or later you're going to have an emergency.

For me personally, I do a nandroid once in a while but it is very important to have just in case something goes wrong. Now for a person that flashes a rom then customize it considerably then I think doing a nandroid should be mandatory once you have your rom set up exactly the way you want so in case something does go wrong you can flash your nandroid and have your phone already set up the way it was versus doing it all over again.

It's the same thing for "wipe first" before flashing. If you know what you're doing, you can use your best judgment.
