Root [CDMA] [Q] Applied OTA update from HBoot now WiFi Error?

rvashi

Lurker
Hey guys, i updated my Evo 3D with the OTA update that's posted in the development section. Now everything is fine except I don't have WiFi. My Wifi just says error...doesn't even try to start.

I tried to use the RUU to downgrade back to shipped/stock ROM but it gives me the 140 Invalid bootloader error. This is because the hboot got upgraded to 1.40 from 1.30. I am assuming to go back to the original shipped ROM, I need to downgrade hboot back to 1.30.

Any ideas? I've created a Goldcard also and tried to apply the OTA update using that, but I get some "invalid operations.....boot successful" error and it doesn't even update anything...just reboots. I'm not sure if I created the goldcard correctly or whats going on. But right now I have no Wifi and I'm out of country so I have no cellular data either and I can't go to Sprint store either.

Please help!

Why cant you go to the sprint store? get your msl and do a hard reset. give that a try

[How Retrieve MSL and speed up internet faster - xda-developersTo]
use this to get your msl if sprint wont give it to you.

He said he's out of the country, and Sprint is only in the US.

But yes, a hard reset seems like the only possible fix until you can return to the States.

Hey guys...thanks for the quick reply.

While I'm trying to get my MSL, what do you guys think about pushing the bcm4329.ko file? That use to always get the wifi issue resolved because that file wasn't loaded properly or something. But I'm not sure if I need root or unlocked hboot for that or not...I'm kinda blanking out.

The bootloader is locked, while you will have some adb access, the use of writing to system files will not work because of the lack of super user i believe. i may be wrong, but i believe a hard reset will put your phone back to facotry state

Thanks wake69.....I'll try to push it and see if it works...if not, oh well.

The other thing that makes my life difficult is that I have a MacBook Pro....so I'm running Windows in a virtual environment.

Anyways, once I get the MSL, how do I perform a hard reset?

Yah, that doesn't require the MSL. I tried that and still no luck.

It resets perfectly fine and reboots and everything but the wifi issue is still there.

What about this?

1. Turn the phone's power off. Take the battery out from the device, wait a couple of seconds and reinsert it back again.
2. Gently, Press and Hold the Volume Down button
3. Then also press and hold the Power button until the device turns on
4. A menu will then appear like: Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Just select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Then press and release the Power button
7. Select Volume Up if YES and Volume Down for NO

No luck!

Okay so I did a factory reset from bootloader. Reset fine but still the Wifi gives error.

Also, I saw that RUU already but gives me a 140: Invalid boot loader error. Cause the OTA updated the bootloader to 1.40 from the original 1.30. So now it won't let me downgrade.

I have a feeling, the factory image which it resets to (every time we do a factory reset) is messed up. So no matter how I do a hard reset, it still gives me the wifi error. So what I'm thinking is that I need to load the original ROM back on...but it keeps giving me problems because the boot loader is updated. So maybe I can put the ROM on there without the hboot. So basically just flash the ROM and radio and everything and just not the HBoot. What do you think? And do you think its possible...and if yes, how?

there are 2 ruus, one is a zip the other is an exe that runs from your computer. did u try both? i tested the ruu.exe, i took ota update and it let me flash to stock yesterday to undo the otas i took since all xda is testing on factory stock not ota.

hmmm....okay that's odd because I tried the RUU.exe too instead of the zip and that goes to erasing user data and then sending and then errors out giving me the 140 invalid boot loader.

I'm downloading the RUU.zip right now. But the only thing I can think of that I did different than you is that I downloaded the RUU.exe from shipped-roms.com instead of the link posted on XDA since it was slower.

Also, how did you take the OTA? by over the air or did you update it using the provided zip at XDA? Cause I flashed it using hboot and it flashed fine...but now it won't let me go back.

I took ota ota

okay so I tried flashing the RUU.zip by renaming it PG86IMG.zip and flashing it from Hboot but it extracts it and checks it, and then doesn't give any errors or anything and just kicks me out to hboot home screen. Any ideas?

I don't think it's possible to downgrade with the RUU.

And a factory data reset only wipes /data and /cache. But the OTA updated /system, /boot, and the bootloader. So clearly that's not going to work either.

If you took the OTA and it broke wifi, the best thing to do is to go back to the place you bought your phone and ask for an exchange.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, I'm out of country for about 2 weeks and don't have cellular data so I rely on wifi...so its kinda essential that I get it back up.

With that said, you think i can push bcm4329.ko without being rooted or is it gonna' give me permission errors?

The other thing I can think of is that is there anyway I can just flash the system partition? So i would ideally have the old ROM with the new hboot. ???

Well just extra information:

wake69 mentioned a few posts back that he was able to go from the OTA back down to stock with the RUU.exe The only difference between what he did and what I did was, he got it OTA and flashed it from hboot with the OTA zip at XDA.
