Root [CDMA] Retail E3D bootloader still locked?

I'm guessing Evo 3D will get an OTA update some point after launch that unlocks the bootloader, just like the Sensation:

HTC Readying Update to Unlock HTC Sensation Bootloader

Given the screenie shows a May 20 date on the HBOOT image (and HTC announced their unlocked bootloader message on May 26), we can assume the HBOOT out of the box has the encrypted signature.

What does "SIMLOCK" do? I'm sure it's some other feature that other HTC phones have, but if it's something new and all it does is go from S-ON to S-OFF, I'd hope some people would feel silly.

Agreed. It'd be pretty cool if it was an OTA on launch day, like it's predecessor.

I assume it's how you would perform a carrier unlock (not bootloader unlock). the SIMLOCK feature is on my Evo 4G, but given that it's not even a GSM-based phone, the feature does nothing.

I assume that if you find an HTC phone that's GSM-based (uses a SIM card), that SIMLOCK option might prompt you for a passcode to unlock the device.

Just guessing though.

Welcome to the forums!

We'll have to see - perhaps there's a simple procedure like on the Nexus to unlock that - or perhaps there will be an OTA update - or perhaps the shipped units will change.

Thanks to Phil at Android Central, looks like they have the shipped version tho - look at the date on their bootloader - all pre-unlocked-bootloader commitment.

So, one way or another, I'm not worried.

We have confirmation from yourfriendmat that the Evo 3D is still shipping with the encrypted bootloader. Again, not a reason to panic, since this version is dated May 20, before HTC made their decision to unlock.

We will now wait for an OTA update from HTC. I would expect that fans are going to be upset that it didn't come unlocked out of the box, and a lot of people may contact HTC again via the same channels used during the bootloader "protest."

Agreed. And hopefully any OTA updates we receive (hopefully shortly after launch) will also address any negatives from the reviews thus far (provided they could be addressed via an OTA update that is)!
