Root [CDMA] Rooting Question (removing apps)

Since I can't post links I was watching a youtube video called How to Root HTC evo 3D! - It has about 200 likes and 4 dislikes so I felt like it was a valid video - the guy showed it every step of the way and I got to the end like him and everything was fine, said success in the command prompt, accepted the key that was generated from revolutionary, etc. but actually got the same error msg as him when choosing Zip file it gave some kind of error that it was aborted -- but anyway he turned his phone off and when he turned ito n a screen came up saying "Hands Free Activation: Contacting Network" I didn't get that, it juts booted to the regular screen..

I confirmed from another website though how to test if you are rooted - downloaded Terminal App, ran SU, and did the whole cd / private-app thing and it gave me access so should mean that I am rooted.

but, how do I now go about deleting the preinstalled or any apps I want because I've only been able to delete a few through the marketplace apps ..that was my main reason for rooting.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+1 to titanium backup. it is a must have IMO for those who are rooted. i would also get the pro key as well that way you can backup and restore your apps in batches. plus you can freeze any bloatware.

or the free method is to download a file manager ESfileexplorer works well.

Navigate to the root and look in the app folder of your device and start deleting all the apps that you dont need. Id be careful here though as some apps are interconnected and deleting one could create a downward spiral leading to the eventual Bricking of your device.

Here is a good link to get you started on what can and cant be deleted.

Remember that .ODEX files can be deleted as long as you are sure that the main file is okay to erase.

And last but not least, if you are unsure about deleting something just change the file extension of both the apk and .odex file to .zip and it will effectively uninstall from your phone. If you see that everything is working then go ahead and delete those files. If you notice something is going wrong change the file extension back to the correct .apk or .odex and restart the phone. it will then be back to normal.
