I have an Evo3D on Sprint. I have successfully unlocked it and it shows S-Off. I have the stock ROM installed. I tried to install 4EXT (to install custom ROMS), BusyBox, and Superuser and all fail. I ran Root Checker and it says I don't have Root access. WHAT? I also can't run the root Tether app. What is the problem? Is there more to "rooting" than just unlocking and having S-Off?

Root [CDMA] Unlocked & S-Off but not root?

So I assume you followed the complete newbie's guide? It sounds like maybe you skipped ahead if you are s-off and didn't flash a rooted rom. Your bootloader for sure says s-off?
If you are s-off download this 4ext recovery from my drop box.
Rename to PG86IMG.zip and place on your sd card not in any folders. Restart phone into bootloader (volume down + power)
When asked to update say yes with volume up. Once your phone boots back up delete PG86IMG from your sd card.
After this is finished download superSU from my drop box. Put on your sd card. Boot into recovery which should now be 4 ext and choose install zip from sd card. Choose the supersu zip and once finished and booted back up run root checker again and see if you are rooted.
