Root [CDMA] Viper 3D bootloop help

kolosus

Android Expert
I'm on s-on 1.50 hboot. Unlocked from HTCdev.

I got the Virgin Mobile HBOOT 1.57 from Unlimited.io and put it on the sd card and renamed it PG86IMG. Hboot checks the PG86IMG (parcing?) but doesn't give me the option to flash it.

I want to run Viper rom. I had a different 3vo and used it on that and I'm hooked but that 3vo had issues and so I'm stuck on this device... The other had s-off so it was not an issue.

Someone give me some ideas. I checked the other Viper boot looping threads but they're suggesting the hboot that I tried but my phone is not letting me flash the boot.

I have 4ext recovery. Thanks.

To be able to change your hboot, you do in fact need to be S off. At least from my understanding you do.

Also I could be wrong about this, but on sprint, you only have options to change from Sprint Hboots which is eng, 1.40, 1.50 and 1.58

Have you looked into going s off before? Also at least I haven't had problems running latest Viper and I'm 1.50 s on, but many, many have reported the same issues you are having on 1.50.

It's recommended that the 3vo user either go s off and flash the 1.58 hboot or upgrade their hboot through ota if they want to run the latest Viper.

you will need to be s-off to use any unsigned firmware or hboot files... and you definatley need to be s-off to run the jp bear patched hboot. if you were able to install it on an s-on phone, youd have a potentially unrecoverable soft bricked device

however, you can upgrade to a newer hboot by using offical htc files. as DS said, you can relock, run an ICS ruu, then reunlock,or OTA,if certain criterias can be met :)

IMO s-off is well worth obtaining. its gives you alot more freedom, and options. :smokingsomb:

I had s-off on my other device... I just didn't have to semi-brick my phone and go through the whole thing again with this device.

But boredom got the better of me. I followed unlimited.io and got s-off and now I'm on hboot 1.58 running Viper. I was on MeanRom not stock and I used a unfolded paperclip to do the wire trick. It was fairly simple. I run linux (not *buntu) but it worked like a charm. Only had to do it once. I either got lucky or it really is that simple.

We can close this thread now.
