Root [CDMA] Will ICS update wipe out Boost Flash?

Hi everyone. I've been a reader here for a few years, decided to finally register.

Sprint finally kicked me off for too much data so I had my EVO 3d Flashed over to Boost.

My question is, If I upgrade my phone to Ice Cream Sandwich next month will I lose my Boost flash? Will I have to reflash?

I love my phone how it is so if I can't upgrade I won't. Just wondering if anyone has run into this before?

Thanks in advance. :)

Most likely, so do not take the update until you get positive confirmation. within hours there will be an official ICS Rom that you will be able to flash anyways.

Follow up question....

Do you know if/when I do upgrade would I need a new donor phone to flash? Would my current donor phone become unable to port?

Just make sure you make a back up so if you do wish to try you can always go back.

Dude, how much data were you using to get Sprint to give you the boot? I ask because Ive been with Sprint for 11 years w/family plan and since the launch of the iphone, speeds in my area have become horrendous. Yet no matter how much I call and complain they will not release me from my contract. Maybe I can use your tactic and be free of this once promising(Treo 600- Palm Pre days) yet now terrible network.

1.) I work in a job where I can listen to my headphones all day. I'm a Sirius subscriber and listen to that ALL day. 8-9 hours of constant streaming.

2.) I PAID for the tether feature for my home so a couple movie downloads a week and theres another 10 gigs plus online gaming.

I was using about 5-10 gigs of 3g data and 10-20 gigs of 4G data a month.

I think they're more concerned with the 3G data. I used that a lot since it was more stable for my music/talk shows.

if you remove the sprint proxy from the phone which if you use the iphone i do not know how to do but, on androids you have to just 0 out the proxy ip/s and id/s and then save it and reboot the phone. i have had that problem because of the amount of people in the area that used sprints which, for the suburbs of philly is like 50 percent of the ppl cause you get unlimited data which no other carrier gives you. but anyone i had issues cause more and more ppl that i knew and that i worked with were getting sprint but, i found out that zeroing out the proxy so it bypasses it completely and just connects to the tower and loads. no connection delays like before. i saw a 25-40 percent in most cases depending on were i was. which that mad it way better with 3g and 4g was even greater after this. you should see if this is an opinion for you until you contract ends.

Honestly, a Sprint OTA hitting you while flashed to Boost is almost impossible and if you take a Boost ICS OTA than it most certainly should not mess up your flash. HOWEVER... it will probably unroot you but if youre S-OFF (Revolutionary) than you can just reinstall superuser. I would highly advise keeping a backup of your flash info anyway and I wrote a guide for exactly that reason over at XDA (Using a FLASH Phone? Please Read This Before Attempting S-OFF or Downgrading HBOOT!! - xda-developers). I flash phones all the time and have lost my carrier info by all sorts of means, like flashing a new radio or other bootloader flash update and occasionally downgrading HBOOT.

I hope this helps!
