Help Cell standby battery hog?

photobucket-3022-1315715285790.png

so did we decide if this is a bug or what? with extended battery it just seems like a bit to much drain but I'm not sure. I guess I'll have to keep it off the charger tomorrow and see how long it lasts.

My cell standby is at 42% right now. I'm considering getting the extended battery but I don't know if I like the added thickness. So is this abnormal for the cell standby to be so high?

I'm using the extended battery, and I'm seeing similar results as most of you. I'm in a 3G-only area right now and my cell standby is in the 20-30% range. Battery life seemed pretty good the first few todays, but today I had to do a factory reset and now it seems like battery life has taken a plunge. And you're right, it takes FOREVER to charge the battery with the Moto-supplied charger.

Any recommendations for a charger that will charge the phone faster?

6hrs 20mins off the charger and I have 20% battery left.
Cell stby:26%
Phone Idle: 25%
voice calls:21% ... 1 call at about 35mins
Wifi has been turned on and my phone is connected to a network extender.

If I can't get 8-9hrs of battery life with very little use then this is going to suck.

I'm using the extended battery and the supplied wall charger does not charge the phone fast enough. In fact, I'm thinking it may take more than 3-4 hours to fully charge while the phone is still on. When I turn off the phone, it charges MUCH faster, but there are many times when I still need the phone on (even if I'm not using it).

Either need a faster charger or might have to get the dock so that I can charge one battery while the other is being used. I'm barely getting 8-10 hours of battery life with the extended battery with very little use.

The interesting thing with this phone is that it's definitely NOT the screen that eats up battery life - it's the radios! It doesn't seem to matter if the phone is in my pocket or if I'm using it with the screen on: the battery still drains about the same! I think I was happier when it was the screens using up all of the juice... at least you could control that. Unfortunately, the phone just uses up a lot of juice even when it's idle (and I'm just on 3G right now)!

^^^ this question, any suggestions? The one they supplied is entirely too short anyway. I don't have any spare USB's that fit this phone.

Not sure...

I use my older phone's charger to charge it...

I happen to have about 5-6 phone chargers so I just use the stock one for computer use...

Man you guys... All day Friday I was sick and didn't pick up the phone at all except to call into work sand say I wasn't coming in. I had the phone on my night stand, unplugged, from Thursday night (100% charge) until Saturday at 2PM when I finally felt like messing around with the phone and still had 40% left. I did NOT root, had added only one Gmail address to sync once an hour and had 4G active.

Same problem here. Cell standby. I haven't even loaded old apps from OG Droid onto new Bionic and had to charge 2-3x in 24 hrs. Can't be normal operation...

Just wondering if everyone else is still having this issue? Just bought the Bionic a few days ago and I do notice a big difference in battery compared to the Droid X which had amazing battery.

So I have the same issue, but I'm from Mexico using a Droid 3, and I have 31% usage Cell Standby. When I use Wi-Fi or 3G my battery drains in 5 hours or so. But when I don't I can have 90% for a whole day. Maybe a system update is necessary.

One of the biggest hogs across all devices is Social Location. It runs in the foreground and can be called by other social apps in the background. It uses GPS and GPS eats battery.

This is a likely candidate for your problem.

How old is your battery? Have you had it tested? My standby battery was a hog but I never really paid attention to it until recently.

I have an extended battery that I have had since October. A couple of days ago, I literally watch it go from 60%, to 40% and then to 20%. I thought there was something wrong since I had not cycled the power in a few days so I turned it off and on again and the battery dropped to 5% and then to 2%. All of this happened within about a 15 minute time frame. I took it to the Verizon store and they tested the battery and I was told that the battery was in an "over charged" state. I asked what that meant and he said that batteries can get a little crazy but it meant that the battery at some time had accepted a charge beyond full and that some how damaged the battery. He gave me a new one and it has worked great ever since.

Are you charging it with the charger and cable that came with your Bionic?

Third party chargers and cables have been known to cause damage.

I use the charger that came with the bionic and a third party cable that John said that he uses from monoprice.

He was mostly concerned that I used a charger from Motorola... he didn't seem to care about the cable. He did say to run the new battery all they way down to zero before charging. It was at 20% when he installed it. He said that there are a lot of cases where the battery is just a bad one and he summarized that was what I had.

Are you thinking that this is not a good thing (using a different cable)? I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with the monoprice cables.

In this case I don't know anything about the cable you are using. Your user's guide says to only use the charger and cable that came with your Bionic.

It would seem that the cable would be a more likely culprit if you were having problems while it was connected.

I don't know.

I'm still just wondering if TMA has a bad battery or if it is something else.

Thom, I am trying out the cables from a different post: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/439089-what-about-cable.html. I ordered them and I haven't heard of anyone posting that they have had issues. I ordered the ones from monoprice. The problem was that the battery was not charging and the drops in power came after unplugging.

Just because the Motorola chargers are great and pass high quality control standards doesn't mean that one can't go bad now and then.

If it was me and I would get a replacement Motorola charger and cable.

Get something that works and then tweak it if you feel necessary.
