Help Change Contact Types

Dunn101

Newbie
I have entered several contacts as 'Google Contacts' rather than 'Phone Contacts' (didn't know there was a difference). Now, unfortunately, these contacts will not sync with Windows Mail on my Vista PC. Does anyone know how to change the contact Types?

Open People app, select Import/Export from Menu, Export to SD card then choose your Google account. Contacts will be exported to a .VCF file.

Delete all Google contacts then repeat the above, only this time Import from SD card and choose to create contacts under Phone. The .VCF file will be found and the contacts imported.

Thanks, Slug, but I tried the export / import option. It only pulled in the name and phone numbers, not the address, etc. Did I do it wrong?

More likely is that the address (and other) fields aren't supported either by the .VCF or the Phone contacts database. Let's try this from another angle....

Log-in to GMail via your PC browser, select Contacts, the More Actions... button and then Export... Choose All Contacts (as you want every Google contact converted) and export to Outlook CSV format. The resulting file should be able to be imported into Windows Mail iirc. Remember to delete the unwanted Google contacts on the handset (and disable sync) if you don't want to use it, then try the sync with Windows Mail. All things being well the imported contacts will show up on the handset as Phone contacts.
