Hello,

i've bought a rooted GALAXY S2 GT-I9100 with android version 4.0.3.
Kernelversion:

3.0.15-I9100XXLPJ-CL140368 se.infra@SEP-94#3

But i'm new to this all.
After reading the all rooted guide i checked my phone status with Root Checker and it seems all ok.

Other applications installed are SuperSU and CWM.
When starting CWM i receive error: This version of CWM Manager should be used wit CF-Root 5.0 or newer. it appears youy are running a different kernel. various features have been disabled.

Since a lot of Jelly Bean roms are posted on the forums, i would like to upgrade to this version of ANDROID.

If I am correct, the only thing I should do is

1 - take a backup of my phone
2 - reboot in download mode
3 - install new rom

Can anyone please confirm this or are there any other things i should do concerning KERNEL versions or things like that?

Thanks in advance

Hello

Your steps are fine, you should check this out first

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/680070-jelly-bean-update-dummies-guide.html

There is no need to worry about the kernel as this should be installed with the ROM, i would suggest you look at Sales Neat ROM, this will also install Philz kernel, CWM and SU, you can change the kernel after if you wish but ive been running this since day one and its quite superb.

Just ensure you select the correct link as there have been updates on the LITE version. See post 1721 here for the full

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/554062-neat-rom-35.html#post5465834

and here for the latest version of LITE

http://d-h.st/ltq

You can the look at installing the Aroma mods once your happy with what you have

Could you just confirm your location before you proceed as the only issue would be with the modem that is installed.

Cheers

Hello,

my location is GMT+1, Brussels in Belgium.

I just had a look to this JB Update Dummies Guide.
There they advice to install JB rom with ODIN, should I do this as well?

Gr33tz and thanks for the answer i ll try it out today!

Ok you should be fine with this release then, i would suggest ODIN is the easiest way to go especially as you mention issues with CWM, NEAT is a non wipe release as well all your accounts , apps etc will remain.

Cheers

As a piece of advice: Read carefully the Dummies Guide put togheter by ironass(http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/680070-jelly-bean-update-dummies-guide.html)
Might take little more from your time until you get the JB on your device, but will save you a lot of headache. If you still have any doubts after reading (and before you proceed with the update) ask the questions. It is really easier to prevent than to repair.

Installation with ODIN is for Official (Stock) Firmware, no more root on your phone after this one, you`ll have to re-root your device.
The other option is to download your ROM of choice (NeatROM will be an excellent choice as it will give you the stock experience but really improved and you keep the root) and install it. you might want to check this thread also: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...l-wipe-whats-big-deal-steps-take-15-mins.html

Don`t forget, ask the questions if in any doubt.

Hello

The first thing you need to do is ensure you have the USB drivers installed on your PC

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/SAMSUNG-USB-Driver-for-Mobile-Phones-1590.shtml

As pointed out by Dramed ODIN is for official releases so to avoid confusion your options would be to:

Download a custom ROM (Sales NEAT) and install that via CWM from your SD card, if you are having trouble with CWM you can get the official JB release here and flash this via ODIN

https://hotfile.com/dl/190267357/9eebb6c/GT-I9100_FOP_I9100XWLS8_I9100XXLS8_I9100FOPLS3.zip.html

Once installed flash Philz kernel again selecting PDA in ODIN

PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSC-XJB-4.00-b33.tar.md5

This will then give you root, SU and CWM, you will then be able to flash the custom ROM from your SD card using CWM

As you have said you are new to this im assuming that you have no previous knowledge of CWM, this should give you an idea

http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/

Transfer the ROM onto your phone using your PC, place it on your SD card and the boot into CWM through CWM manager, if this fails turn off your phone and restart by holding power, home and Volume up buttons together, once into CWM use the volume key to navigate up and down and the power key to select the desired option.

If you have any issues then just ask in here

Cheers

Hello

Looks like a bad download, there is a newer version of neat out now - LSD, suggest you download that and save to your internal SD, then install from CWM

Choose install zip
install from internal sd and select the file

Hello,

i ve downloaded NEAT LSD ROM and copied it to internal sd card in windows explorer.
After doing this, i rebooted in recover mode wit CWM and selected this latest rom.

Yet the same error occured.

Should I wipe data first as described in

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569686

nstallation without wipe:

-Download, and save zip file to internal sdcard
-Go to recovery
-Select Wipe cache
-Go to Advanced and Select Wipe dalvik cache
-Select Install Rom SD card

Any idea?

The issue probably lies with your current kernel, rather than mess around I would suggest flashing the latest stock JB ROM, then root with PhilZ kernel and then install the latest Neat that was released a few days ago

Latest stock firmware

Change List: 889555

and also tried this one:

GT-I9100_FOP_I9100XWLS8_I9100XXLS8_I9100FOPLS3.zip

but yet i have folowing problem with both stock firmwares:

Where can i find the dalvik cache?
When i reboot in recovery mode i only have:

- reboot system
apply update from adp
apply update from external
wipe data/factore reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache.

I do not have any advanced options...

My bad... of course, you are now un-rooted after flashing the stock firmware with un-rooted kernel. Skip dalvik and Fix Permissions until you are rooted.

Cant reboot then....

I guess i try a data factory reset?
Did that and it worked!

Before doing a Factory reset which will wipe your phone's internal memory, you could try downloading this version of Jelly Bean LSD and flash it using the instructions in post #1.7, here.

EDIT Too late! Oh well, at least it worked for you.
